This weekend’s NASCAR race, the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard, is a road course. The 2023 edition of this race marks the third time NASCAR has held a NASCAR Cup Series on the Indianapolis road course. A. J. Allmendinger won the inaugural running of the Verizon 200 in 2021. Last year’s winner was Tyler Reddick. Both men will compete in the 2023 version of the Verizon 200, and they are both among the betting favorites to get the checkered flag in Indianapolis on Sunday.
The road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is 2.4 miles in length. With that, drivers who complete the Verizon 200 will rack up 82 laps. There are a total of 14 turns on each lap.
As is often the case when the NASCAR Cup Series competes on a road course, some different drivers will be in the mix to get the win this week. One of those driver is Shane van Gisbergen. Van Gisbergen picked up a victory in his first NASCAR Cup Series race, winning the Grant Park 220 in July. The 34-year-old is not the betting favorite to win in Indianapolis, but he is among the drivers worth considering when reviewing betting picks for the 2023 Verizon 200.

2023 NASCAR Cup Series Verizon 200 betting picks
Martin Truex Jr.
Will this be the week the red-hot Martin Truex Jr. cools down? Truex has been a force to be reckoned with since the 2023 Food City Dirt Race. After finishing outside the top 10 in six of the first seven races of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series, the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series champ has 12 finishes inside the top 10, including wins at Dover, Sonoma, and New Hampshire. The driver of the No. 19 Joe Gibbs racing Toyota is coming off a second-place finish in Michigan. With his strong racing, a first, second, third, and seventh over the past four weeks, Truex remains in first place in the points race with 799, which puts him 57 ahead of the second place Denny Hamlin.
Truex has not done well on the Indianapolis road course in his first two races, finishing 15th and 21st. However, he picked up a win in Sonoma earlier this year, so one has to consider placing a bet on Truex for the Verizon 200.
Tyler Reddick
Tyler Reddick has four NASCAR Cup Series wins over the past two seasons. Three of those wins, including a 2022 victory on this course, have come in road races. That fact makes him a driver one wants to take a look at when considering their betting picks for the 2023 Verizon 200. Reddick, the driver of the No. 45 Toyota for 23XI Racing, moved to that team after they bought out his deal with Richard Childress Racing, who he had been with since 2019. Reddick led 39 laps during the 2022 edition of this race. In 2021, he finished in 21st place.
Reddick’s stretch of five top-eight finishes on road courses ended at Sonoma, where he finished in 33rd.
Chase Elliott
Chase Elliott might not make the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion missed six races in March and April due to a fractured left tibia he suffered in a snowboarding accident. Elliott, the driver of the No. 9 Chevy for Hedrick Motorsports, was also suspended one race this season, but after a 36th-place finish in Michigan last week, Elliott has nearly been eliminated from the playoff points race. While that might be a disappointment for the 27-year-old and his team, it also means he has to race to win and not worry about points from this point of the 2023 season, considering Elliott is one of the best, and perhaps the best, road racer in the NASCAR Cup Series, it’s worth giving him a look this week.
Elliott has not won a race in 2023, but he finished third in his most recent outing on a road/street course in Chicago. Elliott has a 16th-place and fourth-place finish on the Indianapolis road course.
Best bets to win 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Verizon 200 at the Brickyard
Expect Chase Elliott to be extremely aggressive in what might be a make-or-break race for him for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series. Elliott is a seven-time road course winner, and with this race and next week’s Watkins Glen competition being road races, he will be racing to win and make up as many points as he can in order to make the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. The betting odds might be against Elliott picking up another title in 2023, but he’s the betting pick to win the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Verizon 200 at the Brickyard.
