The first week of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs is in the books, and your playoff leader is Kyle Larson, who took the checkered flag at the Cook Out Southern 500 in Darlington. This Sunday, the Cup Series is in Kansas City for the Hollywood Casino 400, which takes place at Kansas Speedway. Larson, who won this race in 2021, is among the betting favorites to win the race a second time. Bubba Wallace won the 2022 Hollywood Casino 400.

The host race track for the 2023 Hollywood Casino 400, the Kansas Speedway, is a 1.5-mile oval. Kansas Speedway has hosted NASCAR Cup Series competitions since 2001. Joey Logano, who has some fairly steep betting odds to his name this year, is the only driver to win the Hollywood 400 three times. Logano triumphed in 2014, 2015, and 2020. Two-time Hollywood Casino 400 winners are: Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson, and Kevin Harvick. Of the two-time winners, Harvick is the only active driver, winning the race in 2013 and 2015. Jeff Gordon is the only driver to win the Hollywood Casino 400 in back-to-back years. He did so in the first two years the track hosted NASCAR competition.

Denny Hamlin

Denny Hamlin looked like he was about to get his fifth win at Darlington last week. The driver of the No. 11 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing led the Cook Out Southern 500 for 177 laps, but a late green-flag pit stop for what he thought was a loose wheel on lap 274 hurt him badly. A wreck on lap 331 sealed his fate, and Hamlin finished a disappointing 25th at Darlington.

Hamlin is the only driver in the 2023 field for the Hollywood Casino 400 to have won on this track multiple times in the past 12 starts. In 2022, Hamlin finished in fourth and second at the Kansas Speedway, and he picked up a win in the spring race on the track. If Hamlin wins back-to-back in Kansas, he will be the first NASCAR Cup Series driver to do so since Martin Truex Jr. accomplished that feat in 2017.

Kyle Larson

Since moving to Hendrick Motorsports in 2021, Kyle Larson has performed well at Kansas Speedway. The driver of the No. 5 Chevy for the team, Larson has finished first, second, eighth, and most recently second on this track after placing 19th in his first race, where he led the most laps, under the Hendrick banner. Larson won the playoff race in Kansas in 2021 and is coming off a second-place finish in the spring race.

The 31-year-old is racing well on intermediate tracks in 2023, finishing inside the top four in four of six races.

Larson is coming off a win in Darlington last Sunday. The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Champion has not won back-to-back races in 2022 or 2023. In 2021, Larson had two stretches of three consecutive victories. One of those runs included a victory in Kansas.

William Byron

William Byron is not among the top three betting favorites to win the Hollywood Casino 400. Still, the driver of the No. 24 Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports should be considered when deciding on a betting pick for the 2023 Hollywood Casino 400. Outside of a 16th-place finish in the spring race at Kansas in 2022, Byron has finished inside the top 10 in every race he’s started on the track since summer 2019. The 25-year-old, who is looking to improve on his career-high 6th place overall finish last year, placed third in the spring race in Kansas.

Byron is coming off a fourth-place finish at Darlington. He has five wins this year, with the most recent coming at Watkins Glen in August.
