And then there were 12 — as in twelve drivers remaining in the NASCAR betting Cup Series title picture. With the next stage of the playoffs beginning next, it’s time to make updated NASCAR Round of 12 betting picks. This article will cover what’s ahead and who’s the best bet to make right now.
The first race of the Round of 12 will be the South Point 400 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s the first of three competitions in this postseason stage before another four drivers are eliminated — joining Tyler Reddick, Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch, and Michael McDowell, who all missed the Round of 12 cut-down from 16.
Online sportsbooks have released betting lines for the looming Las Vegas competition. As of right now, these six drivers have the best odds at taking the checkered flag in Sin City:

NASCAR Playoffs Preview
To preface, the Round of 12 works identical to the Round of 16. After Las Vegas, NASCAR’s best will compete in Talladega and Charlotte to cap the three-race round. Win any one of the next three races and the driver automatically earns a spot in the Round of 8. At the conclusion of the stage, the four drivers with the least amount of playoff points are out of the title picture.
Taking a look at the current playoff standings, the top four spots are held by these drivers (in order from first to fourth): Kyle Larson, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, and Ryan Blaney. It should be of no surprise all but Blaney is a betting favorite in Las Vegas.
However, it needs to be said that there is a huge gap — and we mean huge — between Larson and Truex for the top spot. Larson has 3059 points, which is 30 more than Truex Jr. That’s due to Larson’s six wins on the season, while Truex is at four. Though, both drivers did win a postseason race in the Round of 16.
Speaking of wins, Larson actually won NASCAR’s first stop at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this season. Way back in early March, Larson took home first in the Pennzoil 400. It’s one of the reasons why Larson is such a heavy betting favorite in the second go-round.
NASCAR Playoff Vegas Pick
We’re making two bets for the Las Vegas postseason race. At these odds, you only need one to make up for the loser and then some so it’s the perfect “insurance policy.” Here is who we’re betting with:
No surprise here, but Larson is an obvious betting choice. He’s had a lot of success in Las Vegas even before the Pennzoil 400 victory. In 10 races at the track, Larson’s average finish is 9.8 and includes four top-5 finishes.
In 2021, it’s never been a bad idea to bet Larson and that continues here. Larson has struggled more in the other Round of 12 races ahead (Talladega and Charlotte), which should motivate him to start strong at a favorite track of his in Vegas.
Martin Truex Jr.
We’re actually surprised that Truex Jr.’s odds in Vegas are this “low.” Like Larson, he’s had his fair share of success at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, in fact, probably more.
Truex Jr. struggled here early in his career between 2006 and 2010 but has found his footing as of late. In his past 10 races at the track, his average finish is sixth and that includes two outright wins and three other finishes in the top-5. Truex Jr. is a great value bet here.
