Following last week’s first-ever street race in Chicago, the NASCAR Cup Series heads back to a more familiar track for this week’s race, the Quaker State 400, which takes place on Sunday, July 9, at the superspeedway-style track of the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Sunday’s race marks the second, and final, time NASCAR will be in Atlanta during the 2023 Cup Series season. The first race of 2023 to take place at the Atlanta Motor Speedway was the Ambetter Health 400. Joey Logano won that race. Logano passed Brad Keselowski on the race’s final lap to claim the victory. The win remains his only victory during the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season.
The Quaker State 400 has been held in July since 2021. The past two winners of the race on the 1.5 mile oval were Kurt Busch in 2021, and Chase Elliott in 2022. Busch is not racing in 2023, but Elliott is, and he is one of the betting favorites to win the race.

2023 NASCAR Cup Series Quaker State 400 betting picks
Kyle Busch
Kyle Busch is one of the favorites to win this race. One of the reasons the 38-year-old has favorable betting odds is that he has two victories in 27 career starts in Atlanta, but neither of those victories have come since the track was reconfigured ahead of the 2022 season. Busch, who moved from Toyota and Joe Gibbs racing to Chevy and Richard Childress Racing for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season, finished in 10th place in Atlanta earlier this year. In 2022, Busch finished 33rd and 20th on this track.
Busch is currently in third place in the standings in 2023 with three wins and six top-five finishes. Busch is racing well, he has a win, a runner-up, and four top-10 finishes in his past six starts.
Chase Elliott
As with Busch, Chase Elliott is one of the betting favorites for the 2023 edition of the Quaker State 400 for a very good reason. He is the defending winner of the race. In 2022, Elliott won the pole and led the most laps before taking home the victory. The 27-year-old Elliott missed several races early in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season because of injury and one due to suspension, but the driver of the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet has come on strong in his past three outings, finishing fifth, fourth, and third in those races.
Elliott is looking for his first win in 2023 after picking up five victories in 2022. It will not be a surprise if that win comes in Atlanta.
Elliott missed the first race in Atlanta this year, but in addition to his victory in 2022, he finished in sixth place in the first race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Joey Logano
Joey Logano picked up his second NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2022. Things have not gone his way so far in 2023. The 33-year-old only has one win this year. However, that victory came at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in March, when Logano led the race for 140 laps before his win. The driver of the No. 22 Ford for Team Penske, Logano, is currently No. 10 in the points race for the 2023 season. He has nine top-10 finishes this year.
Best bets to win 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Quaker State 400
Chase Elliott won the pole for this race in 2022 and then led 96 of the 260 laps before taking the checkered flag. The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion is slowly improving race over race in his past three starts. Expect he and his Hendricks Motorsports team to do whatever they can to secure the victory in the 2023 running of the Quaker State 400.
