Following last week’s Enjoy Illinois 300, which Kyle Busch won, the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series heads west for this week’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California. Last year, Daniel Suarez, who represented Trackhouse Racing, won the road course event behind the wheel of a Chevrolet. The win stands as Suarez’s only career NASCAR Cup Series victory.

This week’s race takes place on the Sonoma Raceway, which is a 1.99-mile long road course. Drivers who finish the race will complete 110 laps for a total of 218 miles or 350 kilometers covered. The Toyota/Save Mart 350 is one of a handful of road courses during the NASCAR season. The others are run at Charlotte Roval, Chicago, Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Indianapolis, Sonoma, and Watkins Glen. The first running of the Toyota Save/Mart 350 took place in 1989, and Ricky Rudd won.

Hendrick Motorsports is the winningest team at Sonoma with seven victories. The last driver to have multiple victories at the Toyota / Save Mart 350 was Martin Truex Jr., who had wins in 2013, 2018 and 2019. Only one driver has won in back-to-back years, and that was Jeff Gordon, who claimed victory in three straight years between 1998 and 2000. In addition to Truex and Gordon, Tony Stewart, Ernie Irvin, Rusty Wallace, Ricky Rudd, and Kyle Busch have won at Sonoma multiple times.

Tyler Reddick

If you’re looking for a road driver to bet on, then Tyler Reddick might be your betting pick. The Monster Energy driver had a road race win earlier this year at COTA. In addition, the Toyota driver won Road America and Indy in 2022. Outside his two wins, Reddick also placed well on other road courses in 2022, taking fifth (COTA), seventh (Watkins Glen), and eighth (Charlotte ROVAL).

Reddick is currently No. 9 in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series standings with 411 points. He has five top-five finishes this year and has placed in the top-10 seven times.

Reddick finishedΒ 35th at Sonoma last year. His best finish on this course came in 2021, when he placed 19th.

Kyle Larson

Kyle Larson is tied with Tyler Reddick in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series points standings with 411 points. Larson has two wins this year, placing first in Richmond and Martinsville. Larson, who drives the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet, is from the Sonoma area. Larson won this race in 2021 but followed up in 2022 with a 15th place finish. He has been on the pole in this race every year since 2017, so he knows his way around this road course.

Working against Larson is the fact that four of his last six finishes this season have been 20th or worse.

Chase Elliott

Chase Elliott served out his one-race suspension last week. NASCAR put the driver of the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet on the sideline after it ruled he intentionally crashed Denny Hamlin. The suspension forced Elliott out of his seventh NASCAR race in 2023. He missed six competitions earlier in the year because of a snowboarding injury. Elliott is in 27th place in the points race. He has two top-five finishes this year and four in the top-10.

Sonoma is an excellent course for Elliott to get back on track for the 2023 season. Of his 18 career wins, seven have come on road courses. Elliott was second to Larson in this race in 2022.
