Michael Smith looking for back to back wins on Premier League Darts Night 14

Manchester is hosting Night 14 of the 2023 Premier League Darts season. The action is coming from the AO Arena, and after his win in Leeds last week, Michael Smith will be looking to go back-to-back when the action gets underway on Thursday. Let’s see if he can do it with our darts betting picks.

  • Night 14 of the 2023 Premier League Darts season comes from the AO Arena in Manchester, England. The action starts at 2 pm ET, on Thursday, May 4th
  • Gerwyn Price, Micahel van Gerwen, Michael Smith and Nathan Aspinall all occupy the four playoff places on the Premier League Darts points table
  • Jonny Clayton is also vying for a place in the playoffs. But for Dimitri Van den Bergh, Chris Dobey, and Peter Wright, it looks all over
  • Michael Smith was victorious last week in Leeds. His 6-4 win over Gerwyn Price saw him move back into third place on the points table.

Crucial win for Michael Smith

And Smith’s win was much needed. The current world champion lost his place in the top four the previous week. His first round exit in Rotterdam saw Smith drop to fifth, a position that would see him finish outside the playoff places – something which would be unthinkable for the World No.1.

Now with just three nights remaining, Smith is back at the business end of the table. The win has also seen him go four points clear of Jonny Clayton in fifth place. Meaning Smith’s place in the playoffs is looking more secure again.

In the points table, Gerwyn Price has extended his lead at the top to four points. The Iceman is now on 33 points, four points clear of Michael van Gerwen. MVG had been favored to top the table all season. It was only when he relinquished the lead after Rotterdam, that Price took over the favorites tag. To top the table, Gerwyn Price is now -163. MVG is out to +137.

Night 14 Winner Betting

In the betting to win Night 14, Gerwyn Price is favorite at +275 with the best online sportsbooks. Price does have to play Michael van Gerwen (+300) in his quarter-final though, with the winner possibly facing Michael Smith (+300) in the semi-final, should he come through his quarter-final match with Nathan Aspinall (+1400).

Quarter-Finals

  • Peter Wright vs Jonny Clayton
  • Chris Dobey vs Dimitri Van den Bergh
  • Michael Smith vs Nathan Aspinall
  • Gerwyn Price vs Michael van Gerwen

Semi-Finals

  • Peter Wright/Jonny Clayton vs Chris Dobey/Dimitri Van den Bergh
  • Michael Smith/Nathan Aspinall vs Gerwyn Price/Michael van Gerwen

Having the top four of the table all in one half of the draw does open up the possibility of an outsider winning this week though. From the top half of the draw, one of Jonny Clayton (+700), Peter Wright (+800), Dimitri Van den Bergh (+1100), or Chris Dobey (+1600) is guaranteed a place in the final in Manchester.

This opens up the possibility of using betting strategies such as hedging our bets to make a profit this week. Full winner betting for Night 14 can be found below on our darts betting odds table. Our Picks

As we’ve already mentioned, this week could be a good one for hedging our bets. MVG plays Gerwyn Price in the quarter-final. The odds are in Price’s favor, with the Iceman at -133 to win with the best darts betting sites. MVG is the outsider at +113.

We think Price might come undone against MVG this week. He’s odds against winning the match, almost unheard of in darts these days. And we think that makes MVG a worthwhile bet to win.

But, with the winner of this match likely to be playing Michael Smith in the next round, we’re going to make a pick from both halves of the draw. From this half of the draw, we’re going for Michael Smith. The current world champion won Night 13, with his 6-4 win over Gerwyn Price in the final coming with an average of 104.86.

Can Peter Wright win a Premier League Night in 2023?

From the other half of the draw, picking a winner is just as difficult. Peter Wright has had a Premier League to forget. He did defeat MVG 6-3 last week in Leeds, but then lost 6-2 in a horror showing against Michael Smith (Wright averaged just 80.41).

It’s hard to know which version of Peter Wright will turn up from one week to the next. But one thing we do know is that Wright is a player of proven pedigree. We believe he will win a Premier League Darts night in 2023, so why not this one?

Peter Wright is +800 to win Night 14 of the Premier League Darts season, and we make him our second pick to win on the night.

If either player wins, we’re in profit. More so, if it’s Wright!
