Lions favored at home

British Columbia is a 7.5-point home favorite over the Alouettes in Week 5. After starting the season 3-0, the Lions were blown out 45-24 by the Argonauts last week. Vernon Adams Jr. threw six interceptions to the reigning Grey Cup Champions, including a pick-six. Meanwhile, Montreal also suffered their first loss of the year in Week 4, falling 17-3 to Winnipeg. In addition to turning the ball over four times, the Alouettes allowed five sacks.

Cody Fajardo could be under siege again this week as B.C. is tied for the league lead with 14 sacks. The Lions’ defense is also permitting the fewest yards of net offence (241.0) in the CFL, and the second-fewest points (16.5) per game. We’ll take B.C. to cover.

Blue Bombers vs Stampeders

Winnipeg is 8-point chalk at home to Calgary. The Blue Bombers rebounded from a humiliating home loss to the Lions in Week 3, trouncing Montreal 17-3 in rainy conditions. However, Zach Collaros has now been held under 200 yards passing in back-to-back starts. Things should be easier for the CFL’s two-time reigning Most Outstanding Player against a Stampeders defense allowing the third-most yards of net offence (368.3).

Calgary quarterback Jake Maier will also be hard pressed to generate offense against a Bombers D that has already generated 10 turnovers while co-leading the league in sacks (14). We like Winnipeg to win big.

Tiger-Cats vs Red Blacks

Ottawa is a 2.5-point road underdog in Hamilton. The Redblacks defeated Edmonton 26-7 last Friday, picking up their first home win in almost two years. They’ll try to keep the momentum going against the 0-3 Tiger-Cats, who will be without Bo Levi Mitchell. While Hamilton will be forced to roll with back-up QB Matthew Shiltz, Ottawa will have their starter back under center.

Jeremiah Masoli will see his first action since suffering a leg injury in early 2022. The 34-year-old journeyman is no star, but his return should give the Redblacks the edge versus the winless Ti-Cats.

Roughriders vs Elks

Saskatchewan is a 7.5-point home favorite over the Elks on Thursday. While the Roughriders barely won their season-opener in Edmonton 17-3, their starting QB Trevor Harris played much better in Weeks 2 and 3, passing for 688 yards with four TDs and an INT.

Edmonton is not only 0-4. They’ve lost by eight-or-more points in three straight games. Take the Riders in a rout.
