- Shane van Gisbergen (+125) is favored to capture his fourth-career Supercars Championship
- Brodie Kostecki (+200), Will Brown (+300) and Broc Feeney (+700) are tightly bunched in the drivers’ standings
- Sydney SuperNight will take place from July 28 to 30 at Sydney Motorsport Park in Australia
Shane van Gisbergen shocked the racing world at The Grant Park 220 in July, becoming the first driver to win his NASCAR debut since Johnny Rutherford 60 years ago. However, the New Zealander is no lock to capture his third-consecutive V8 Supercars Championship. At the midway point of the season, he trails leader Will Brown by 72 points in the drivers’ standings heading into Sydney SuperNight.

van Gisbergen or Brown?
While Shane van Gisbergen (+125) has gone winless for ten-straight races, he has closed the gap in the driver’s standings over the past two events. The Kiwi is now only 72 points back of leader Will Brown (+300), who claimed his fourth checkered flag of the season at the NTI Townsville 500.
All four of Brown’s wins this year have come in the past ten races, suggesting the 25 year-old is heating up at the right time. Will the three-time and reigning Supercars champion be able to close the gap?

Sydney SuperNight
Sydney Motorsport Park is the next stop on the Supercars Championship. On Saturday, July 29, it will feature the first-ever night race between the Gen3 Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs. While that race will be 51 laps with a minimum two-stop requirement and refueling, Sunday afternoon’s race will be a 36-lap sprint.
van Gisbergen has won eight races at Sydney Motorpark – just two back of Mark Skaife’s all-time win’s record.
Tight in the top four
Heading into Sydney, the top four drivers in the championship are separated by just 72 points. In between Brown and van Gisbergen in the standings are Brodie Kostecki (+200) and Broc Feeney (+700). Hoping to replicate van Gisbergen’s success, Kostecki will compete in the next NASCAR race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Just seven points back of Brown, the 25-year-old Australian hasn’t won since picking up back-to-back-victories in races 4 and 5 in Melbourne. Meanwhile, Feeney is 26 points back and tied with Brown for the most wins (four) this year.

Best Bet
When we last checked in on Supercars over a month ago, we recommended Brown at +650 and Feeney at +1400. Both drivers are down to +300 and +700, respectively, as the championship is now down to a four-man race with six events to go.
Given the value on the the 20-year-old rising star, Feeney remains the best bet. Remarkably consistent all year, the Australian’s odds will skyrocket if he picks up his fifth win of the season in Sydney. Wager on Feeney now before it’s too late.
