The names for the 2013 Home Run Derby have been dropped; the event will take place this on Monday July 15th at 8 PM ET and will be televised by ESPN.
Prince Fielder is currently the betting favorite to win the 2013 Home Run Derby and defend his crown from last season. Heβs 7/2 in the odds as he hit 28 home runs last season.
Yoenis Cespedes is the new comer in these types of events and could be a great semi longshot with 11/2 odds.Β Robinson Cano selected Yoenis Cespedes to be on his squad.
“It’s hard,” Cano said Tuesday prior to the announcement regarding Cespedes. “The big guys, because there’s a lot of good guys up there that should be in the Derby. You only get to pick three. You try to do the best and pick the guys that you think are going to help you. There are other guys who should be in the Derby, but you only get a chance to pick three more.”
Cespedes is the fourth player not chosen for the All-Star game to compete in the event.
Cano is 11/2 in the odds as well, but Bryce Harper seems to be the fan favorite with 5/1 odds to win; he has only 13 home runs this season and 29 RBIs, but people love his story.
Chris Davis is the one whoβs intriguing to me as he has 33 home runs and 85 RBIs this season; heβs not playing around and wants to steal the show from Prince on Monday.Β His numbers are as impressive as they get, you know, before the steroids era.
These are 2013 Home Run Derby – Odds to Win:
Prince Fielder (DET) 7/2
Chris Davis (BAL) 15/4
Bryce Harper (WSH) 5/1
Yoenis Cespedes (OAK) 11/2
Robinson Cano (NYY) 11/2
David Wright (NYM) 15/2
Carlos Gonzalez (COL) 15/2
Michael Cuddyer (COL) 9/1
Take Davis to win the whole thing and upset Fielder. Β Heβs just playing at another level right now.
