• Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets
• Friday, April 28 at 7:00 PM ET
• Citi Field in Queens, New York
One of the best rivalries in the Major Leagues has to be the one between the Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets. Straight up, these two teams don’t like one another and it’s been that way for years. Luckily for fans, these two teams are all set to face off on what should be a huge NL East series this week. With that said, the Braves should take care of business vs. the Mets on Friday night when they meet.
Although the Braves are yet to announce who their starting pitcher will be, the Mets will be going with left-handed hurler David Peterson. No disrespect to the NY pitcher, but he has been nothing short of terrible thus far in 2022. Peterson will enter this matchup with a 1-3 record. However, he also holds a 7.36 ERA. That’s awful. Teams have been able to light him up whenever he’s been on the bump.

Braves to win | -115 | -115 | -115 | -115 |
Mets to win | +125 | +125 | +125 | +125 |
Over to hit | -110 | -110 | -110 | -110 |
Under to hit | -110 | -110 | -110 | -110 |
With Atlanta having so much power at the plate too, it could prove to be a long day for Peterson. The issue for him in 2023 has been his command. His inconsistent pitching has surely been a nightmare for Mets fans. It’s rough for them having to see Max Scherzer pitch one day, with things followed up soon after with Peterson. He needs to step up his game and fast for New York here.
According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the Braves hold -115 MLB betting odds to record a win. The Mets have been listed at +125. Normally, we think the Mets would have a great chance to post a victory, but that’s not the case for this matchup with Peterson on the hill. This could prove to be a lopsided contest. We’re going with the Braves as our pick.

The over should hit between the Braves and the Mets
It goes without saying, but the over should hit between the Braves and the Mets when they go to battle on Friday night. Why, you ask? Well, as we mentioned above, Peterson has an ERA north of 7.00. As soon as you see this stat, it jumps off the page and not in a good way. Peterson has been one of the worst pitchers in the division for the start of the season and the Atlanta hitters are going to make life rough for him.
The Braves feature Ozzie Albies, Ronald Acuna Jr., Matt Olson and much more. As of this writing too, the Braves are 16-8 on the year and they’ve seen their MLB betting odds skyrocket to win the NL East. Prior to the season, you figured it’d be a three-team battle between the Mets, Braves and Phillies, but Atlanta is starting to separate itself from the pack a little bit. That speaks to the fantastic work of manager Brian Snitker.

“We’ve done a good job,” Snitker said ahead of the new season on what the Braves have been able to get done in recent years. “I think now you’re going to see the core group of these guys here every year for this thing. I think that’s what Alex (Braves GM) does, keeping those young, quality guys around.”
With Snitker and the Braves riding high, they’ll be ready to put up plenty of runs in Queens for Mets fans to witness. Not only that, but the NY hitters, including Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor, will surely be ready to try and record some big hits of their own as well. Per the oddsmakers, the over/under has been set at seven runs. We think the two teams will surely be able to smash that. We’re going with the over.
The Braves World Series buzz continues to grow
What’s great for Atlanta fans is that the Braves World Series buzz continues to grow. Snitker has become one of the best managers in the bigs, but the young talent working under his leadership has truly stepped up. Acuna is one of the best outfielders in the game, no one can deny that. Also, first baseman Matt Olson is a true stud.
When Atlanta traded for Olson, it brought the Freddie Freeman days to a close for the organization. People were depressed at that news, but Olson has been an All-Star player for Atlanta as well. He’s one of the main reasons why Atlanta has such strong World Series betting odds.
As things stand, the Braves have been set with their +550 odds to win the Fall Classic. Things indeed have gone up for them, as they have passed both the Dodgers and Astros for that No. 1 spot. People all over Georgia think this could be the year where the Braves once again bring home the title. With how good they’ve looked so far, you wouldn’t be foolish to bet on them to capture the World Series glory. Will they get that done? We’ll find out once November rolls around – but they look amazing.
