Corbin Burnes is a Slight Favorite to Win the 2023 NL Cy Young

Here we go, Major League Baseball fans. We are inching closer and closer to Opening Day, with several teams and superstar players ready to try and record big seasons. While a lot of people are getting excited to see who will win the World Series, don’t forget that a lot of individual awards will be on the line. For pitchers, you know there’s loaded talent in the American League and National League. And entering the new season, Corbin Burnes is a slight favorite to win the 2023 NL Cy Young.

There’s no question that Burnes is one of the best pitchers in the game. Back in 2021, he took home NL Cy Young honors thanks to his brilliant performance on the bump. Burnes has so many different pitches he uses to make batters look silly when trying to record a hit off of him. Burnes has been such a great talent for the Milwaukee Brewers, and people all over town love seeing him in action.

“Obviously we have a great starting five, but we feel that we’ve got a good depth of seven or eight guys that can really contribute at this level and help us out this year,” Burnes said in an interview with MLB.com. “It’s always good to get into camp to talk to these guys about what they worked on in the offseason, to see if there are any ways to help or anything you can pick up on. And if we’re going to be able to carry this team as far as we can, we’re going to have to go out and do our job.”

According to the best-rated sportsbooks, Burnes holds +475 MLB betting odds to win the NL Cy Young. Right behind him at +500 is Miami Marlins hurler Sandy Alcantara, who won the NY Cy Young in 2022. This figures to be a race between these two from start to finish during the 2023 campaign. Believe it or not, though, we don’t think either of those guys will capture the glory. Instead, we think a stud over in Queens, New York will win it.

Justin Verlander is our pick to win the NL Cy Young

That’s right, New York Mets righty Justin Verlander is our pick to win the NL Cy Young. This new campaign is a bit of a fresh start for Verlander, as he has said goodbye to the Houston Astros and hello to the Mets. Verlander is getting towards the back-end of his career, but come on, no one can argue that he’s still one of the most dominant pitchers in the game, as he’s lethal with the ball in his hands.
With Verlander, he’s also going to be motivated to record a big year in Flushing, as the Mets have strong World Series betting odds. After not going on a deep postseason run last season, the Mets are hoping to silence their haters by bouncing back a bit this year. In order for them to do that, there’s no question that Verlander is going to have to record a big season, as he’s ready to do big things at Citi Field.

“This is my first time coming to a new team in spring training when everybody is just getting back together and the routine is a little bit different, everybody is just going about their business,” Verlander said via the New York Post. “It’s like transferring to a new high school. Everybody has got their cliques, they know each other and they are just getting to know you and I’m trying to get to know them. It’s fun.”

The exciting thing for the Mets is not only do they have Verlander, but they will also feature Max Scherzer as well. This has the potential to be one of the best one-two starting combos in the bigs and Mets fans sure are excited to see how they can do. From our chair, we think Verlander will be the ace. He holds +700 odds to win NL Cy Young. We think he’ll deliver for the New York Mets odds and post huge numbers. He’s our pick.

Jacob deGrom remains the favorite to win the AL Cy Young

Elsewhere, Jacob deGrom remains the favorite to win the AL Cy Young. Previously, deGrom was the ace for the Mets, but he has since signed with the Texas Rangers – he’s ready to make a splash in the AL West. The big issue for deGrom is his inability to stay healthy. In recent seasons, deGrom has made several trips to the Injured Reserve. This caused a lot of NY supporters to grow increasingly frustrated with him.

Now that he’s with the Rangers, though, deGrom looks poised to have a big campaign. According to the oddsmakers, deGrom holds +400 odds to win the AL Cy Young. Others in contention include Gerrit Cole, Dylan Cease, Carlos Rodon and others. If deGrom can stay healthy, then he should be able to push for the AL Cy Young. Luckily for Rangers supporters, we think that will be the case: deGrom is our pick.
