What does the club from Queens have in store for this season? The New York Mets are entering the new season with high expectations, as fans are dreaming of this team making it to the World Series. While November is still far away, Opening Day is on Thursday and New York has a strong chance to get things going with a bang. And entering the showdown, the Mets are favored over the Marlins on MLB’s Opening Day.
Right now, all eyes are going to be on Max Scherzer, who is all set to start this one. While a lot of the talk this offseason has been on New York bringing in Justin Verlander, an AL Cy Young winner, don’t forget for a second that Scherzer is still one of the best pitchers in the bigs. When Scherzer is healthy and on the bump, he’s known for striking out batters left and right. He’s fired up for this contest.

Elsewhere for the Mets, their offensive power is always fun to watch. Come Thursday, the NY supporters are going to be following Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor and others closely. It will be on the New York sluggers to make an impact in this one, and for the rest of the season for that matter. The Mets have strong World Series betting odds. With great hitting and quality pitching, they indeed could make a strong splash in the postseason. First, though, they need to win on Thursday.
According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the Mets hold -132 MLB betting odds, while the Marlins have been set at +115. With the game being played in Miami, a lot of fans might think that the Marlins will post a victory in this one. However, we don’t think that will be the case on Thursday, as we’re rocking with the Mets as our pick to get the win.

Sandy Alcantara will be ready to put on a show as well
While there’s a lot of excitement for the Mets, Sandy Alcantara will be ready to put on a show as well for the Marlins. Alcantara is an absolute stud, as he won the NL Cy Young last season. Alcantara proved time and time again that he was the best pitcher in the National League. Now, he’s going to want to follow things up with another huge campaign, as he’s the best player for Miami entering the new campaign.

As for Scherzer, the righty has monster expectations for this season too, and he’s eyeing an NL Cy Young. If Scherzer can be on top of his game throughout the season, then the Mets will surely be able to record a memorable campaign. He and Verlander form quite the starting duo. Verlander was hoping to start Opening Day, but at the same time, he’s also ready to see Scherzer do his thing.
“I’m really looking forward to Max (Scherzer) taking the ball, quite honestly — a Hall of Fame pitcher on Opening Day and I can sit in the dugout and watch him pitch and enjoy the festivities, which is something I tried to cherish,” Verlander said in a recent interview with MLB.com.
With Alcantara and Scherzer on the mound, this figures to be a low-scoring game. Per the oddsmakers, the over/under has been set at 6.5 runs, with -110 odds for both. Alcantara is the reigning NL Cy Young winner and Scherzer is an animal on the bump for the Mets. Because of this, it could be a long day for the Miami and New York hitters. Because of this, we’re going with the under as our pick.
The Mets have strong World Series betting odds in 2023
With the regular season here, fans have confidence knowing that the Mets have strong World Series betting odds in 2023, with them set at +900. Over in the American League, the Houston Astros are the top dogs and the New York Yankees aren’t too far behind them. However, in the National League, the Mets, Dodgers and Braves are being looked at as the top three teams for the NL. New York was hoping to play in the Fall Classic last year, but things didn’t go to plan.
An early exit was a major disappointment for manager Buck Showalter, but he thinks that his players will be ready to live up to the hype this year. The Dodgers and Braves won’t make that easy, though. Atlanta is the favorite to win the NL East, but the Mets are hoping they can grab the division title over them. Atlanta and New York form one of the best rivalries in the bigs. The matchups between the two will be intriguing this year.
Only time will tell if the Mets can go on a deep postseason run, but guys like Alonso, Scherzer, Verlander, Lindor and more will want to play at a high level for the Queens side. If things can go to plan for the Mets, then it could prove to be a season to remember for them. We’ll see how things go down here.
