2022 MLB American League Pennant Futures Picks

The Houston Astros claimed their third American League Pennant at the end of the 221 Major League Baseball season. Houston had previously taken home the pennant in 2017 and 2019. However, the team was unable to win its second World Series title. The Astros fell to the Atlanta Braves in six games in the Fall Classic. The Astros claimed the 2021 pennant by downing the Boston Red Sox in a six-game series.

Houston is once again in the mix to win the AL Pennant in 2022.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays are the current favorites to win the AL pennant in 2022, but the club might not hold that spot for long. Currently, in third place in the AL East behind the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto has a 17-13 record. The team has scored 115 runs and allowed 125.

The Blue Jays need Bo Bichette to improve at the plate. The shortstop is currently hitting a career-low .238. Last season Bichette hit .298 with 29 home runs and 102 RBIs.

The Blue Jays squandered some opportunities last week, going 1-2 against the Yankees and 1-3 against the Guardians.

The Blue Jays have road series against the Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays this week.

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees have the best record and the best winning percentage in Major League Baseball as of this writing at 20-8 and .714. New York has scored 124 runs and allowed just 75. The team is currently riding an 8-2 record over its last 10 games.

New York began the season with a 5-5 run, but the team quickly found its footing after that, going 15-3 in its next 18 games.

Anthony Rizzo and Aaron Judge are tied for the American League lead with nine home runs apiece, and Rizzo is second with 22 RBIs.

As for the pitching, Jameson Taillon, Jordan Montgomery, Nestor Cortes, and Luis Severino have all performed well for the New York club.

Houston Astros

The reigning American League champs are second to the Los Angeles Angels in the West, but they are only one game behind their rivals, so there is no reason to panic there. The Astros are on a seven-game winning streak, and while they are not scoring many runs, they are allowing even fewer. Houston have three shutouts during the winning streak and have allowed two runs in each of their other four wins during their winning streak.

Like the Yankees, Houston started out shaky, opening the season by losing nine of their first 16 games. However, the pitching is locked in right now and if the Astros can find their bats, they are going to be a tough team to play against in 2022.

Our pick

The Yankees are our pick to win the American League Pennant in 2022. The team’s bats are already doing their job, and the pitching rotation is strong as well, with four of their starting pitchers at or below 2.84 ERA.
