cc_sabathiaThe New York Yankees have announced this Friday they will go the rest of the season without their best arm in the bullpen, CC Sabathia, who needs surgery on his right knee.

The idea is to have the player go to an arthroscopic debridement surgery next week, and could be in time for next spring training.

“He tried the rehab side of it, and obviously that didn’t work,” Yankee’s general manager Brian Cashman said. “If he had three different options, that was the least. Now, we are on the middle side of this thing, the clean up of the knee, and hopefully that is good enough.”

“Hopefully, next year will be a different story,” Cashman added.

If Sabathia takes a microfracture surgery on the knee, could have been career-ending surgery for him; he’ll get the procedure done, but not right now.

“It doesn’t mean that is off the table,” Cashman said.

The Yankees are dealing with a lot of injuries this season, especially in their bullpen.  Now with Sabathia out, he will join Ivan Nova who out for the year after Tommy John surgery; the general manager hopes that Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda can return in the month of August.

Expect the New York Yankees to add a pitcher before the trade deadline at the end of the month.

The Yankees are third in the American League East division standings behind the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles; they need to kick it up a notch if they want to make the playoffs in Derek Jeter’s last season in the majors.
