It’s a Three-Man Race for the 2023 MotoGP World Championship

  • The 2023 MotoGP season has seen eight races completed.
  • 2022 MotoGP World Champion Francesco Bagnaia has won four of those eight races.
  • The 2023 MotoGP season picks back up for the final 12 races in August with the British GP.

The 2023 MotoGP season is on a one-month break following last weekend’s Dutch GP, which Francesco Bagnaia won, beating Jorge Martin by a little over 1.22 seconds. The victory was the Italian racer’s fourth win of 2023. With the next race on the 2023 MotoGP schedule being the August 6 British GP, following the recent cancellation of the 2023 Kazakhstan GP, it’s time to look at the betting odds, picks, and predictions for who will win the  2023 MotoGP world championship.

While Bagnaia is having great success in 2023, the 2021 MotoGP world champion, Fabio Quartararo, is struggling. The Yamaha racer has not won in 2023, and his best finish was third place at the 2023 Motorcycle Grand Prix of the Americas.

The legendary Marc Marquez is also having a challenging year. Marquez missed three races early in the year because of injury. He then did not finish in France and Italy. Marquez did not start in the past two MotoGP races in Germany and the Netherlands.

Francesco Bagnaia

At this time in 2022, Francesco Bagnaia had won two MotoGP races after finishing as runner-up in points in 2021. He went on to win five of the last 10 races of the 2022 MotoGP season to win the points race with 265. The 26-year-old started his 2023 MotoGP season red hot. The Ducati rider has picked up four wins this year and racked up 194 points, which puts him 35 points ahead of the second-place rider Jorge Martin.

If Bagnaia finishes the second half of 2023 anywhere close to how he raced in 2022, he’s almost a lock to win the 2023 MotoGP world championship.

Marco Bezzecchi

In his first year with MotoGP, Marco Bezzecchi did not win a race. His best finish was second place at the 2021 Dutch TT. He finished the year with 111 points, which put him in 14th place. The 24-year-old has already exceeded that point total during the 2023 MotoGP season. With eight races completed, Bezzecchi has 158 points, which puts him in third place, one point behind Jorge Martin.

The Ducati rider has two wins this year, and is coming off a runner-up finish at the Dutch TT. In his past four races, Bezzecchi has finished first, eighth, seventh, and second.

Bezzecchi is still in the running to win the 2023 MotoGP World Championship.

Jorge Martin

Following ninth-place finishes during the 2021 and 2022 MotoGP seasons, Jorge Martin has already surpassed his points totals in those years in 2023. The 25-year-old has racked up 159 points in eight races, with most of those points coming in his past five outings after not finishing two of the first three races on the 2023 MotoGP schedule.

Martin, who rides for Ducati, has finished in fourth, second (twice), fifth and picked up a win in Germany since his slow start. He is coming off a fifth-place finish in the Dutch TT.

Martin started 2022 slow but picked up steam in the second half of the season. In the final 12 races last year, he had six finishes in the top six. Martin might be trailing Bagnaia and has Bezzecchi hot on his tail, but he’s in the hunt for the 2023 MotoGP World Championship.

Best betting picks for the 2023 MotoGP World Championship

By the looks of things, there are three MotoGP riders who are in the mix to win the 2023 MotoGP World Championship. One of those men, Francesco Bagnaia, is the defending MotoGP champion. The other two racers, Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin, have not cracked the top eight in previous seasons. With 12 races left in the 2023 MotoGP season, the race for the championship is wide open. However, Bagnaia, with his success over the past 12 months, is the best bet to win. With that being said, both Martin and Bezzecchi present a lot more betting value than Bagnaia.

Best bet to win the 2023 MotoGP World Championship: Francesco Bagnaia.
