The 2023 Moto2 season is on a one-month break following the recent Dutch GP, which Jake Dixon won following his back-to-back third-place finishes in Italy and Germany. With the next race on the 2023 Moto2 schedule being the August 6 British GP, following the recent cancellation of the 2023 Kazakhstan GP, it’s time to look at the betting odds, picks, and predictions for who will win the 2023 Moto2 world championship.
With eight races down, it looks like the competition to become the 2023 Moto2 world champion will be between three racers. Last year’s fourth-place finisher, Tony Arbolino is currently in the points lead with 148. Not far behind the 22-year-old Italian is Pedro Acosta, who finished the 2022 Moto2 season in fifth. Acosta has 140 points on the year. The only other rider with more than 100 points in 2023 is Dixon, who sits in third place in the 2023 Moto2 world championship standings with 104 points. Dixon finished last year in sixth place.

Pedro Acosta
Pedro Acosta is in his second year in Moto2 following his first-place finish in 2021 on the Moto3 circuit. Acosta finished last year with a win in the final Moto2 race of the season. That victory gave him 177 points, which was good enough for fifth place on the year. In 2023 the Spanish rider picked up where he left off in 2022, winning the first race of the season. Since his victory in Portugal, the 19-year-old has finished in the top three in six of the eight races of the 2023 Moto2 season.
Acosta, who rides for Red Bull KTM Ajo, had back-to-back wins in Italy and Germany and finished in third place in the recent Dutch TT.
While Acosta is in second place in the Moto2 point standings, his performance in the early going of 2023 and the second half he had in 2022, where he had five top-six finishes in the final eight races of the year, make him the favorite to capture the 2023 Moto2 world championship.
Acosta is going to move to MotoGP in 2024. Expect him to be focused and driven in pursuit of heading there with a Moto2 world championship on his resume.
Tony Arbolino
Currently in first place in the Moto2 points race, Tony Arbolino looks like he will continue to improve in the standings if he does not win the 2023 Moto2 world championship. The 2020 Moto3 runner-up, Arbolino, moved to Moto2 in 2021. He finished in 14th place that year. Last year, the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team rider moved to fourth place with 191.5 points. The 22-year-old has 148 points in 2023, with wins in Argentina and France. Arbolino had back-to-back runner-up finishes in Italy and Germany before finishing the recent Dutch TT in seventh place.
Arbolino had two wins in the final 12 races in 2022, but he also finished outside the top-five eight times in those races. If the Italian rider hopes to win the 2023 Moto2 world championship, he needs to improve on those performances.
Arbolino is looking for an opportunity to move to MotoGP in 2024. A Moto2 world championship will help him get there.
Jake Dixon
The 27-year-old Jake Dixon is having the best year of his Moto2 career in 2023. A member of the GasGas Aspar Team, Dixon has 104 points on the year. He finished 2022 with 168.5 points, putting him in sixth place for the season. Dixon’s best previous finish came in 2020 when he had 44 points and placed 18th. Dixon is coming off the first win of his Moto2 career, placing first in the Dutch TT race.
In the seven races Dixon has started this year, he has not finished lower than sixth place.
Dixon is a betting dark horse in the 2023 Moto2 world championship. However, he is making some noise, and if he can remain consistent for the rest of the 2022 Moto2 season, it won’t be a shock to see him take home the title.
Like Arbolino and Acosta, the British Dixon hopes to move to MotoGP in 2024.

Looking at the betting odds for the 2023 Moto2 world championship, Pedro Acosta is the clear favorite to win. However, at -300, he does not present a good betting value. Those looking for value should consider wagering on Tony Arbolino or Jake Dixon, who both present more favorable betting odds. Arbolino has been the more consistent of the two racers. He has improved year over year. Dixon is more of a wildcard. Yes, he is doing well in 2023, but has not been consistent during his career.
