- The Seawolves (6-0) are a -7.5 point favorite over the Legion (5-1) this week
- Seattle and San Diego are the two top teams in the Western Conference in 2023
- Four other Major League Rugby matchups will take place across the country on Saturday, April 8
Seattle is the only undefeated team in Major League Rugby this season. They’ll look to pick up a seventh-straight win when they host San Diego. The Seawolves and Legion sit atop the Western Conference so this should be the best of the five games going on across the league on Saturday

Seattle hosts San Diego
Seattle (6-0) is coming off a razor-thin 36-35 victory over New Orleans (3-4) in Week 7. The Seawolves came back from a 21-10 first-half deficit to end NOLA Gold’s three-match winning streak and remain undefeated. Meanwhile, San Diego (5-1) captured a 48-26 win against Old Glory DC (2-4). On Saturday, the Legion will look to avenge a 43-19 playoff defeat to their rivals in last year’s West Eliminator.
With the top spot in the conference on the line, this matchup could prove crucial come the end of the year. In Major League Rugby, the top team in each conference gets a first-round bye while seeds #2 and #3 battle for the right to advance. Last year, Seattle lost the MLR Championship to Rugby United NY, but they won league titles in both 2018 and 2019.

Seawolves favored at home
The Seawolves are 7.5-point home favorites on Saturday night. Seattle is a perfect 3-0 at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, WA, however, they did have a close call (28-22) against Rugby ATL (2-4) back in March so they’re not infallible. This will be the club’s first home match since March 11th after two road games and a bye week.
Betting San Diego to win outright at +215 isn’t the worst idea given their solid 5-1 record this season. You get more value than taking them to cover the +7.5 points (-120). And, at this early juncture, it’s hard to say if the Seawolves are that much better than the Legion.

Other Saturday Games
New England (4-2) is favored by 24.5 points over Chicago (1-5), the highest point spread of Week 8. The Free Jacks are the top team in the Eastern Conference while the expansion Hounds have just one victory in six contests.
New York (3-3) is 9.5-point chalk over Toronto (1-5). While the Ironworkers only have a .500 record and are playing north of the border, the Arrows’ competition have already outscored them by 99 points this season.

Utah (4-2) is a 10.5-point road underdog to Houston (5-1). That’s a lot of points considering the Warriors have four wins in 2023, but their +3 point differential suggests they have been a bit lucky. In comparison, the SaberCats’ +64 point differential is the third-best in the MRL.
Finally, Rugby ATL (2-4) is a 6.5-point home favorite over Old Glory DC (2-4) on Saturday. This is a pivotal game for both clubs as they look to stay in the Eastern Conference playoff race. We’ll take Old Glory DC to score the upset.
