Daily Fantasy Sports in Alabama
![]()
Daily fantasy sports and pick’em-style fantasy products are available to eligible Alabama users, but they are not the same as sportsbook betting. Alabama has not legalized state-regulated online sports betting, and users looking for the latest legal and market context can also see our Alabama sports betting guide. Paid fantasy-contest operators must register with the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.
This guide explains which fantasy products Alabama users may encounter, how paid fantasy contests are regulated, and how DFS differs from sportsbook betting.
Alabama DFS status: Paid fantasy contests are available through registered operators.
Minimum age: 19 for most paid fantasy-contest products in Alabama.
State-regulated sportsbooks: Not available in Alabama.
App formats: Vary by operator, product, and current Alabama terms.
Status last checked: June 2026.
The current DFS situation in Alabama
Historically, the Alabama state government has endured a love-hate relationship with DFS. In April 2016, Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange called a halt to all DFS activity in the state. Strange issued cease-and-desist orders to both FanDuel and DraftKings. He determined that paid daily fantasy sports sites were participating in illegal gambling under Alabama law.
Within a month, both sites had agreed to shut down all operations involving Alabama. Each settled with the Alabama government. All Alabama IP addresses were blocked by DraftKings and FanDuel, and any balances in existing user accounts within the state were refunded to the player.

In 2019, Alabama enacted the Fantasy Contests Act, which authorized and regulated paid fantasy contests. Paid fantasy-contest operators must register with the Alabama Attorney General’s Office before serving Alabama users.
State law also requires contest outcomes to depend on the combined statistical performance of more than one athlete or team, rather than solely on one athlete or one team. Individual operators use different contest structures and eligibility rules, so Alabama users should check the current terms before entering a paid contest.
Contestants must be at least 19 years of age to be eligible to play DFS games in Alabama. Any money won while playing DFS in Alabama is subject to state and federal taxes.
Can you use PrizePicks, DraftKings, FanDuel, and Underdog in Alabama?
Since Alabama began regulating DFS in 2019, several DFS sites have moved into the state to begin offering their product to players. PrizePicks, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, and Sleeper Fantasy are all available to Alabama players.
Availability can differ by operator and product. Traditional salary-cap fantasy, drafts, pick’em products, and other fantasy formats may not all follow the same Alabama rules or app experience. For broader app availability in the state, see our Alabama betting apps guide.
Use the table below as a product-level snapshot of major fantasy operators in Alabama, then check each operator’s current Alabama eligibility page before entering paid contests.
| App | Alabama product status | Minimum age | Important distinction |
| DraftKings | Pick6 lists Alabama as an available jurisdiction | 19+ | DraftKings Sportsbook is unavailable in Alabama. |
| FanDuel | FanDuel Picks rules include Alabama-specific eligibility | 19+ | FanDuel Sportsbook is unavailable in Alabama. |
| PrizePicks | PrizePicks lists Alabama access for eligible users | Check operator terms | Format and lineup rules depend on the product. Team and Culture Picks should not be described as DFS. |
| Underdog | Underdog lists Alabama as an eligible state | 19+ | Product availability and contest rules can vary by state. |
| Sleeper | Sleeper says contest availability depends on location and device | 19+ | Product availability can vary by location, product, and device. |
Verified June 2026. Availability can change, so users should check each operator’s current Alabama eligibility rules before depositing or entering a paid contest.
Let’s look at what each of these DFS sites has to offer to Alabama players:
DraftKings
DraftKings Fantasy and eligible Pick6 products focus on player-stat projections and contest entries rather than sportsbook wagers. The Pick6 flow is straightforward: choose players, select More or Less for each statistical projection, set the entry amount, and submit the entry. The main limitation is that Alabama users must confirm which DraftKings fantasy products are currently available in the state.
FanDuel
FanDuel Fantasy offers a familiar interface for users who want daily fantasy contests across major sports. We like that the app makes contest discovery and lineup creation easy to follow. The key limitation is that FanDuel Sportsbook is not available in Alabama, and fantasy or Picks formats can vary by state and product.
PrizePicks
PrizePicks is built around pick’em-style fantasy entries and More or Less selections on player-stat projections. The app is simple to use, which helps newer fantasy users compare entries quickly. The limitation is product clarity: Team and Culture Picks should not be grouped into DFS, and Alabama users should confirm which PrizePicks products are currently eligible.
Sleeper Fantasy
Sleeper Fantasy offers fantasy products that may include player-stat selections, pools, and social features depending on location and device. We like that Sleeper’s interface is built around community-style play, which can make contests easier to follow with friends. The limitation is that product availability can vary, so Alabama users should check Sleeper’s current eligibility rules before entering paid contests.
Underdog Fantasy
Underdog Fantasy offers draft-style and pick’em-style fantasy products in many eligible states. We like the variety of contest formats, especially for users who prefer quick entries over season-long management. The limitation is that available products and rules can vary by state, so Alabama users should check current eligibility terms before depositing or entering a contest.
DFS vs sports betting in Alabama
DFS contests and sportsbook wagers work differently. For the current sportsbook status, see our Alabama sports betting laws guide.
Alabama DFS vs sports betting
| Feature | DFS / fantasy contests | Sports betting |
| Legal status in Alabama | Paid fantasy-contest operators must register with the Alabama Attorney General’s Office. | Covered separately from Alabama’s registered fantasy-contest framework. |
| How results work | Contest outcomes must depend on the combined statistical performance of more than one athlete or team. | Sportsbook bets can involve game outcomes, spreads, totals, props, parlays, or futures. |
| Product structure | Formats vary by operator and may include salary-cap, draft, pick’em, or peer-to-peer products. | Odds are posted by a sportsbook, and users wager into markets offered by that operator. |
| Key user check | Review Alabama eligibility, contest format, entry limits, fees, and prize rules. | Do not confuse offshore sportsbook access with Alabama-licensed sports betting. |
Offshore sportsbooks vs DFS apps in Alabama
DFS apps and offshore sportsbooks should not be grouped together. Alabama fantasy-contest operators must register with the Attorney General’s Office, while offshore sportsbooks are not licensed by Alabama regulators or U.S. state gambling regulators.
That distinction matters for users. Registered fantasy-contest apps operate under Alabama’s fantasy-contest framework. Offshore sportsbooks may list traditional sports betting markets, but they do not provide the same state-level consumer protections users would get from a licensed sportsbook in a legal betting state.
Alabama DFS vs offshore sportsbooks
| Feature | DFS apps | Offshore sportsbooks |
| Regulatory status | Paid fantasy-contest operators must register with the Alabama Attorney General’s Office. | Not licensed by Alabama or U.S. state gambling regulators. |
| Product type | Fantasy contests, drafts, salary-cap games, or pick’em-style products. | Traditional sportsbook markets such as spreads, totals, moneylines, props, parlays, and futures. |
| Consumer protections | Subject to Alabama fantasy-contest rules and operator registration requirements. | No Alabama state regulator handles payment, account, bonus, or dispute complaints. |
| User checks | Check age, Alabama eligibility, contest rules, fees, and prize terms. | Check payment rules, withdrawal terms, account restrictions, dispute process, and licensing information before depositing. |
Alabama users who want state-regulated sports betting access must be physically located in a jurisdiction where licensed sportsbooks are available. Offshore sportsbooks are a separate option, but users should understand the different legal, payment, account, and consumer-protection risks before depositing.
What Alabama users should check before joining a DFS app
Start by comparing the contest types available in Alabama. Some apps focus on salary-cap contests, while others emphasize drafts, pick’em-style entries, or player-stat projections. We think contest variety is also an important part of a useful DFS app because it gives users more control over how they play.
Next, check fees, entry limits, prize rules, and withdrawal terms. DFS apps may use different fee structures, and the best fit depends on how often you plan to enter contests and how much you want to risk per entry.
Beginner support also matters. If you are new to DFS, look for clear contest rules, low-entry contests, simple lineup tools, and responsible-play settings. Our Alabama betting guide explains broader beginner considerations for users researching DFS and pick’em apps in Alabama.
Finally, review banking options before signing up. Make sure your preferred deposit and withdrawal methods are supported, and avoid claiming any bonus until you understand the current terms, playthrough rules, expiry dates, and withdrawal restrictions.
