The Nittany Lions of Penn State made a difficult decision earlier this year, firing head coach James Franklin. Earlier in the season, the Nittany Lions were 3-0 and it looked like they were going to head to the College Football Playoff. However, Penn State lost three games in a row and the choice was made to let Franklin leave. With that, Eli Drinkwitz is the new betting favorite to coach at Penn State.
| Penn State HC odds | |||
| Eli Drinkwitz | +350 | +350 | +350 |
| Brian Hartline | +500 | +500 | +500 |
| Joe Brady | +650 | +650 | +650 |
| Jeff Brohm | +850 | +850 | +850 |
Drinkwitz is currently serving as the coach at the University of Missouri and he’s done a great job with the SEC team. Penn State isn’t the only school that he’s been linked to, as there’s speculation that other programs in need of a new coach could pursue him. If Penn State does make an offer, would the veteran coach pack his bags and make his way to Happy Valley?

Eli Drinkwitz is being linked to several college openings
There’s pressure on Penn State to step up and make a big hire. Last season, the Nittany Lions reached the College Football Playoff, but suffered an early exit against Notre Dame. With Franklin now fired, fans want the administration to go after a big name and bring excitement back to the program soon.
Penn State was previously linked with both Curt Cignetti and Matt Rhule. Both of those coaches were reportedly at the top of the wishlist for Penn State. However, Cignetti signed a contract extension with the Hoosiers of Indiana, while Rhule did the same with the Cornhuskers of Nebraska. Will that lead to Penn State now going after Drinkwitz?
“I’ll bet every sitting head coach has been listed as a candidate for some job so far,” Drinkwitz said when asked about coaching rumors going around earlier this season. “As a team, as a coach, we got to ignore the noise and focus on the things that we can control.”
Despite Drinkwitz shooting down speculation that he’s interested in leaving Mizzou for Penn State, it’s clear that the Nittany Lions are quite interested. According to the top sports betting sites, Drinkwitz has been given +350 NCAAF betting odds to take over at Penn State for Franklin. He’s of course not the only candidate for the job, as there are other names being floated around right now.
The long list includes Ohio State Buckeyes offensive coordinator Brian Hartline, who is also incredible when it comes to recruiting for the Big Ten team. Hartline is expected to have plenty of offers thrown his way this offseason. Could he take over at Penn State? Other candidates include Joe Brady, Jeff Brohm and others. It will be interesting to see who Penn State hires, but a decision should be coming soon.
