Let’s break down some of the favorites and share our picks for MVP this season.
Favorites
Breanna Stewart
Stewart is the favorite and is determined to win her second MVP award. She has won two WNBA titles and is a four-time All-Star. Many were surprised when she left the Storm in the offseason.
While playing for the Storm last season, Stewart showcased impressive stats, averaging 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. Stewart finished as runner-up for the award last season.
If the Liberty manages to live up to the preseason hype and secure the best record in the league, Stewart will receive considerable attention and recognition.

I would not recommend betting on Stewart at this price of +300 odds, the price feels a little short, and I don’t think she will win the award in her first season on a new team.

A’ja Wilson
After claiming the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards last year, Wilson showcased her dominance on both ends of the court. She averaged 19.5 points, 9.4 assists, and 1.4 steals last year.
Adding Candace Parker to the Aces frontcourt may lower those impressive numbers from Wilson. Additionally, no player has managed to repeat as the league’s MVP since 1998.
The Aces’ 41-point win over the Storm on Saturday is the largest by any team in a season opener in WNBA history.

Points for the starters:

◽️Chelsea Gray: 14
◽️A’ja Wilson: 13
◽️Candace Parker: 12 pic.twitter.com/xNltDFnBFO— The Athletic (@TheAthletic) May 20, 2023
This is another one I would not recommend betting on at +350 odds at BetOnline. The price feels short, and I doubt she will repeat as MVP.
Elena Delle Done
Another former MVP winner, Delle Done, seems to be overlooked for this award. She is the star of the Washington Mystics, and if she can stay healthy, she will undoubtedly be in the MVP award discussions this season.
The fact that she isn’t on one of the two “superteams” may hurt her chance as the Liberty and Aces are set to get most of the media coverage.
Her price of +650 to win the award is a great value and one I recommend betting on.
Contenders
Kelsey Plum
Plum’s breakout season had her finish second in scoring and significantly impacting the team. She finished third in MVP voting last season. Under the guidance of Becky Hammon, the team underwent an offensive transformation.
They went from being one of the league’s weakest 3-point shooting teams to the best, and Plum played a crucial role in this improvement. She led the company with an impressive average of 3 made 3-pointers per game while demonstrating intense perimeter defense.

With her status as a key player on the defending champions, Plum finds herself among the top players in the league.
I recommend betting on Plum to win MVP at +700 odds.
Sabrina Ionescu
Ionescu consistently fills up the stat sheet with impressive performances. In 2023, she made history by becoming the first WNBA player to achieve the milestone of 500 points, 200 rebounds, and 200 assists in a single season.
Her talent was evident at Oregon, where she set an NCAA record with 26 triple-doubles. With a stronger supporting cast in New York, she will no longer be solely responsible for carrying the team.

The added talent around her will provide valuable support, allowing her to share the load and contribute even more effectively.
This is another great value at +800 odds, and I recommend betting on Ionescu to win MVP at +800 odds.
Best Bet
Kelsey Plum
The best bet for this award is Kelsey Plum. She has a fantastic price at +700 and a better roster. The overall credit will be divided, but Plum’s arrival as a true superstar and potential face for the league will win out.
I recommend betting on Plum to win the award at +700 at Betonline.
