Russell to finish ahead of Sainz in 2023 Austrian Grand Prix

Round 10 of the 2023 Formula 1 season comes from the Red Bull Ring in Austria, where Max Verstappen will be looking for his fifth successive Grand Prix victory of the season in the Austrian Grand Prix. Can he do it? Of course, he can. But fear not, as we’ve found some alternative Formula 1 betting picks for Sunday’s race.

  • What; 2023 Austrian Grand Prix – Round 10
  • Where; Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Austria
  • When; Sunday, July 2nd, 2023
  • Time; 9 am ET
  • Laps; 71
  • Race Length; 306.452 km

Unfortunately, it’s an early start for anybody watching in the Eastern Time Zone. But what better way to spend a Sunday morning than watching another Max Verstappen procession?
Yes, one week, he will spin off the track, or his car will fail. But until that happens, we have to get used to watching Verstappen win for the remainder of this season at the very least.

Betting to win the Driver’s Championship without Max Verstappen

But Verstappen’s dominance has opened up opportunities in other F1 betting markets. One such market that has come to life recently is betting to win the F1 driver’s championship without Verstappen.

Here, any Sergio Perez backers must be tearing their remaining hair out. The Mexican was -1000 just four races back but is now just -165. In the Driver’s Championship, Perez is on 126 points, but Fernando Alonso has been bearing down on the Red Bull No.2 driver in recent weeks and now sits on 117 points.

If having one former multi-world champion bearing down on you sounds bad, then have some sympathy with Perez, as he has two. Yes, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has also entered the race.

The Brit has 102 points and is also heaping the pressure on the shoulders of poor old Perez, who has also had to deal with constant speculation about him being replaced at Red Bull due to his poor showing in recent weeks.

Having been +1000 just a few weeks ago, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are now just +300 in the betting to win the driver’s championship without Verstappen.

2023 Austrian Grand Prix betting

Nothing new to see here, Max Verstappen is the favorite to win the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix. The best Formula 1 betting sites have Verstappen at -300, the same price he was to win in Canada two weeks ago.

Behind Verstappen, the odds are starting to bunch up more. A few weeks back, Sergio Perez was priced at odds of +300 to win, he’s now +1000 to win. Behind second in the betting Perez is Fernando Alonso at +1100, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton both on +1200.

There must have been some money coming in for Leclerc because earlier in the week he was +1400. This could be down to the Ferrari driver winning the race and the proceeding sprint here 12 months ago. But given the form shown by the Prancing Horse team this year, an extra zero might need adding to those odds to make him a good value bet!

More betting odds are on our F1 betting table. The odds we have used are from the best online sportsbooks for F1 betting. Using these sportsbooks ensures you get the best value odds on your Austrian Grand Prix betting picks.

Our Picks

Unless something utterly dramatic happens, Max Verstappen is more than likely going to win the Austrian Grand Prix. Is -300 good value for money? Probably not. I often thought that when he was -100 to win a Grand Prix. Never mind -300.

But if you’re happy to wager at that price, your money is probably safe. If not, then you’re in the right place, as we’re happy to give you some alternative F1 picks.

Russell to finish ahead of Sainz

First up, in the head-to-head markets, George Russell is favored to beat Carlos Sainz. Russell is -135, and Sainz is +105. We’re ignoring all the talk that this circuit suits Ferrari, as it hasn’t done in recent years.

Okay, last year Charles Leclerc won the sprint here, and he also went on to win the race. But that was Ferrari’s first win in this race since before the race returned to the F1 calendar in 2014.

There have also been two Styrian Grand Prix races held at this venue, in 2021 and 2022. And guess what, Ferrari didn’t win either of those races either. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen did.

Okay, so Ferrari has the best record of any constructor here. But this record is based on performances from another era, not recently. And given their record in the 2023 F1 season, we are not picking them to win anything at the moment. Therefore our first alternative F1 pick for this race is for George Russell to beat Carlos Sainz.

In the betting to finish on the podium, Sergio Perez is -120, as is Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton is +100, and Charles Leclerc is +200.

We think that the form of Fernando Alonso and his Aston Martin team this season has been solid. The Spaniard has impressed this year and shown that if you give him the tools, he still has the skill.

We’re backing Fernando Alonso for a podium finish in Austria this weekend for our final F1 betting pick.
