As you will see in this guide, updates do remain relevant in July regarding college basketball betting news and notes around the sport. This could even include teasing some different markets one may want to keep an eye on. For example, the Wooden Award has popped up.
The college basketball season concluded in April with the Michigan Wolverines winning the national title over Connecticut. With most, if not all, major commitments made, numbers and news will slow down a little bit. Futures markets did throw a bit of a wrench into the start of July while teams continue building in the planning phase. There may have been a jolting event before the NBA Draft too.
Any additional events, like all college basketball betting news will be further explained and updated down below. Of course, for all of the latest NCAAB betting updates, the top sportsbooks in 2026 guide is a go-to resource. In addition to the futures wagering markets, there will be awards and more eventually.
NCAAB futures storylines this July
- Michigan and UConn have dropped leaving Duke and Florida at the top for now.
- More on the Dusty May exit and some fallout.
- NBA Draft 2026 look back and 2027 look ahead.
- Keeping tabs on odds shifts for July.
- Some other stories to keep an eye on.
Now, college basketball seemed to slow down in July, as Summer fully engulfs the college basketball world. Bluntly, one never knows sometimes. There can always be some sort of unexpected player or coaching news. Sure enough, the shocker happened. Dusty May got the role of a lifetime the Monday before the NBA Draft. May was hired by the Dallas Mavericks to be their next head coach.
Dusty May is the first college head coach to move to the NBA since 2019, making the jump from Michigan to Dallas.
But May says coaching in the NIL era has helped his transition, saying that college and the pros are more similar than ever.

Naturally, there is where sportsbooks got rattled a little for the 2027 National Championship. The very early favorites were Michigan (+650 to 700) and Duke (+650 to +700). Now, Florida and Duke have taken over. Inevitably, Michigan has dropped to +1300 and in some cases longer. Even UConn has wobbled around a little. Teams like Arizona and St. John’s remain in an interesting place at this stage of the process.
Finally, when it comes to college basketball betting news, we have it all right here. Do remember it is still several months between now and Midnight Madness and those early November NCAA basketball games.
Latest college basketball line shifts and moves for July
2027 National Championship Favorites:
- Michigan drops from +700 to +1300
- Duke again in the same +600 to +700 territory
- Florida inches into the +600 to +700 range
- UConn (+1000) and Illinois (+1300) stay mostly steady but some books have them around +1500
- St. John’s (+2500) and Arizona (+2000) are teams to start looking at once again.
The National Championship game has become ancient history as the 2026-27 season is four months away. Next up, the NCAAB monthly betting odds movement will mostly focus on the summer months and any offseason news. Now, during the regular season, this section will cover all sorts of weekly odds line shifts, the why, and what factors go into the non-conference, conference, and eventually tournament schedule.
These include elements such as injury updates, new lineup changes, or unexpected factors that coaches and players have installed in the weekly game planning and scripts. For even more help, make sure to also check out the best college basketball betting apps available now at MTS. After all, NCAAB betting news slows down more and more this time of year.
Regarding conference futures, those will come soon enough. However, this allows time to examine some of the earlier shifts. Working on those college basketball line moves can be a challenge along with the rationale. Please do note the shifts above. The May news is significant and normally, we would look at college basketball portal and commitment news, but this was sudden.
NCAAB news and betting impact altered by May
Here in this section, you would usually find college basketball analysis and more related to injuries, the transfer portal, and how it impacts each college from a betting perspective. Naturally coaches are important here because of recruitment but finding blue chip talent along with fit can be far harder than it seems. July can be a month to exhale. The NBA Draft came and went but then there was Dusty May.
May just won the National Championship with Michigan in April after defeating Dan Hurley and Connecticut. The Wolverines seemed settled and ready to go into the summer loaded with a roster that could have easily contended to repeat. Did anyone have the NBA calling? Maybe. Did anyone having the team being the Dallas Mavericks? There were probably far fewer correct about that one.
Holy crap! Again, players still can move but seeing a coach like this move was truly unexpected in every way. Also, for this to happen right before the NBA Draft was something. It goes to show how fast the college basketball and NBA worlds move even in the early stages of the summer. May alluded to adaptability in his introductory press conference which appears even more appropriate now in retrospect.
BREAKING: University of Michigan coach Dusty May has agreed to become the new head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, sources tell me, @AdamSchefter, @PeteThamel. Major college-to-pro jump for the 2026 NCAA championship coach and swing for the Mavericks and Masai Ujiri. pic.twitter.com/rwlwhRtNfo

Expect to see more impacts from this move. Michigan acted fast as Elliott Cadeau (Final Four MOP) and a few other players will stay aboard. Mike Boynton (Head Coach) was a very good Assistant Coach under May. Now, the spotlight is on him as he shepherds the Wolverines through the rigors of defending a title in this era of college basketball. Boynton inked a four year, $8.9 million AAV deal on June 26th.
Duke and Florida are deemed the class of college basketball right now. Watch social media in the case any more news does break. In the meantime, one thing is clear. Expect the unexpected.
As the Summer months go by, there will be more fallout here but hey, let’s serve up some high school comings and goings.
The Wooden Awards open with their numbers
For any buzz with transfer portal movement and high-school commits, there inevitably focuses the next logical step. Who might be the best player in college basketball? There are around 100 players listed because again, these are opening numbers. Some early favorites include Jeremy Fears Jr. at +850 (Michigan State) and Thomas Haugh at +1000 (Florida). John Blackwell (Duke) is lurking at +1200. If one is curious. new St. John’s standout Tounde Yessoufou is now +1500 and may be at least worth a look.
Again, if anyone wonders, John Blackwell staying at Duke will have big implications for the Blue Devils obviously. Blackwell will thrive in the Jon Scheyer offense and Duke could very well be one of the Top 25 offenses in the NCAA (52nd in points per game last season). Going from Wisconsin to Duke was probably a good career move at this stage.
Tyran Stokes, the top player, signed fairly early with Kansas and is now +1900. Caleb Holt (+4000) was raring to go with Arizona from the Spring. Flory Bidunga (+3000) of Louisville is another power forward to keep on the radar. He became a force for Kansas last year and only expects to see even more touches and field goal attempts which only help his chances.
There will be even more on these numbers as August approaches and beyond. This is only the beginning.
Mobile College basketball betting is ready
As the offseason relaxes more, mobile betting comes to the forefront to mark the latest odds and markets across the country. This includes all options for all futures, money lines, and props. After all, college basketball will be on 24-7 starting in November and the conference seasons start soon thereafter. The marathon looms for the bettors!
Besides the early holiday tournaments, bettors are just eager to get in on the action once more. MTS highlights the Prime Sportsbooks for mobile betting page. This provides constant NCAAB betting analysis. Also, do not forget the promotions and boosts that help with bankroll management.
November may still be four months away. However, get those fingers ready on your phones and iPads/tablets soon enough.
College basketball betting trends and the “new” March Madness
The games in a college basketball season are already being weighed differently by bettors. However, we eye up the big and small pictures. All customers must bookmark the March Madness betting site merely as a future guide. This showcases the ups and downs on a weekly basis. During the regular season, this page digs into shifts among the contenders and those who on the dreaded bubble, and maybe those who could come out of nowhere.
Now, bettors get eight more games to wager on for the NCAA Tournament. Play-in winners often do not advance beyond the second round at the max. With a potential salary cap looming for college sports, it will be intriguing to see how the NIL money trail affects future college basketball recruitment. At the moment, we worry about the product on the courts.
When the regular season does get closer, it will be worth noting the props for teams on the bubble to make the tournament as there will be more on these lists. That may be another avenue to explore.
What else is on our radar
July rolls along and the NCAAB betting news scene should continue to evolve. This includes everything from injuries, more roster adjustments, to even a surprise coaching move. We dive more into the why and how in this section. College basketball betting trends are illustrating that there is less and less of an offseason.
How will the new tournament format impact teams impact conference play? What happens with teams trying to boost their RPI to get into the expanded tournament? Word out there is other teams will follow suit for the 2027-28 season. With Prime rumored to be entering the betting landscape (maybe as soon as 2027-28). Streaming and betting are going to become more joined to the hip than ever.
Besides that, attempting to keep an eye on all the latest happenings can be a challenge. One has to be ready to move fast to get ahead when it comes to NCAA basketball.
Previous NCAAB betting news updates
- [June 2026]: NCAA Tournament debate continues. The Big 3 stays the same more or less and some transfer plus high-school commit updates.
- [May 2026]: Transfer portal heated up as some players contemplated staying in the NBA Draft. NCAA Tournament expansion remained one of the biggest offseason talking points.
- [April 2026]: Michigan takes home the National Championship over Connecticut as the offseason gets underway with transfers and more.
- [April 2026]: Early tournament rounds favor underdogs ATS. Double-digit seeds cover in over 55 percent of games during the first round. We adjusted our betting approach toward spreads instead of moneylines to manage risk while still exploiting inefficiencies.
- [March 2026]: Conference tournaments drive volatility. Automatic bid races lead to sharp line swings, especially in semifinal games where rest advantage matters. I noticed totals moving by 4–6 points due to pace mismatches and fatigue angles.
- [March 2026]: Selection Sunday locks the bracket. Futures markets react fast as No. 1 seeds are confirmed, with top teams shortening from +600 to +450 range. Bubble teams that sneak in create upset-heavy regions, increasing value on underdog moneyline parlays.
Finally, this section features monthly updates of prior months until we get closer to the start of college basketball season. Do note that these college basketball line moves happen more rapidly in season. This archive will help keep track of every update as the 2026-27 season draws near and goes on. Early futures markets continue to move during July and August. Plus, there may be some opportunities early rather than later when it comes to certain teams. Dusty May and Michigan illustrate that anything can and will happen.
It is important to note that the last coach that jumped from college to the NBA happened in 2019. This may become a little more common but pump the brakes here.
The games are not close to mattering yet. However, the numbers still move. It is the nature of the business as teams are not quite in the planning phases for their season yet.
The best advice is to take this in stride. Even though Michigan created a jolt, the lines paint a very tiny picture in the grand scheme of things. Again, that was the only significant movement over the past month and that trend is likely to continue into July.
Yes. Take a look at what is going on with some projections particularly with ESPN and other sites. Do not get too wrapped up in the hype but looking at it is harmless at this juncture.
The numbers for the Wooden Awards made their grand opening for the 2026-27 college basketball season. Jeremy Fears Jr. of Michigan State and Thomas Haugh of Florida open up as favorites. There are plenty of other candidates as more than 100 players were listed.
