Emma Raducanu to Win a Grand Slam in 2022

After winning the 2021 US Open, Emma Raducanu is the talk of the tennis world. Whether it is the fact she was the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam or her international appeal (and marketing potential), a lot of people are taking notice.
For her to truly become a global tennis star she needs to add another Grand Slam to her resume. We see two Grand Slams where she could win in 2022 – Wimbledon and the US Open. In our early 2022 Grand Slam futures preview, we predicted she would win at Wimbledon in 2022.
She made the Round of 16 at Wimbledon in 2021 – which was her Grand Slam debut. She was raised in the United Kingdom – and is beloved in her home country. We expect her to improve on her 2021 performance and challenge for the title.

If Wimbledon does not end according to plans, we can also see her repeating at the US Open. The US Open has been dominated by young players for the last five years. No winner since 2017 is over 24 years old. Naomi Osaka won twice in that span in 2018 and 2020. It seems the young guns have more gas in the tank by the time the US Open rolls around – which bodes well for Raducanu’s chances of repeating.
Emma Raducanu to End 2022 Ranked Number One in the World
Emma Raducanu End of Year no.1 in 2022 | |
Yes | +1400 |
As of September 28, Emma Raducanu is ranked 22nd in the world. She is over 7000 points behind world number no.1 Ashleigh Barty. Of course, points are dropped 52 weeks later – meaning anything earned in 2021 will not count towards the end of the year rankings.
Grand Slams are the biggest awarders of points – giving the winners 2000 points. Assuming Raducanu can win another Grand Slam and place well at two more, she can challenge for the number no.1 ranking in the world.
The biggest uncertainty going into 2022 is how Raducanu plays on clay. Raducanu made her debut at the $100,000 Manchester 2018 Tennis Tournament (an ITF event). Since making her debut over three years ago, she has never played a professional match on clay.
That makes us wary about how many points she can accrue over the Spring Clay Season. There are a lot of points up for grabs with the Madrid Open, Italian Open, and French Open (3,900 points if you win all three).
If it turns out she is stellar on clay, she can do it. As we expect her to show well at Wimbledon and the US Open (winning one of the two and finishing high at the other), she may just need to reach at least two quarterfinals over the three major clay events to get enough points to finish 2022 as the world no.1.
Alexander Zverev to Win a Grand Slam in 2022

Three players currently ranked in the ATP top-5 have yet to win a Grand Slam. Stefan Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, and Andrey Rublev. Of the three, the one we believe in the most to win a Grand Slam is Alexander Zverev.

Alexander Zverev will be the physical peak age for a tennis player’s prime (24-25 next year) in 2022. It is the same age Novak Djokovic won his second, third, and fourth Grand Slams (not saying they are the same player, just using Djokovic as an age example).
Zverev is playing well in 2021. He won the Olympic Gold Medal and reached career bests at the French Open and Wimbledon. He has made one Grand Slam final – the 2020 US Open (where he lost to Dominic Thiem).
We think he can win a Grand Slam in 2022. He has come close and keeps getting better. We never know when Novak Djokovic will decline or deal with an injury – which would increase the chances of Alexander Zverev winning exponentially. Overall, there is value in betting on him winning a Grand Slam in 2022.
