Western and Southern Open 2021 Betting Predictions

The last significant tournament before the 2021 US Open – the Western and Southern Open (also known in circles as the Cincinnati Masters) begins this week and runs until August 22. While the tournament is missing a few people, mainly on the men’s side (such as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer), we still cover some high-ranked players in our Western and Southern Open 2021 betting predictions.

Bests Bet to Win the ATP 2021 Cincinnati Open

With the big three sidelined this week, we turn a focus to a mixture of the other guys on the tour looking to add a big win before heading into the final Grand Slam of 2021.

Roberto Bautista Agut Arguably the Most Impressive Performance in 2020

Roberto Bautista-Agut is coming off a semi-finals appearance at the Cincinnati Open (last year played in New York due to the Pandemic). He marched through some tough opponents at the event, knocking off Daniil Medvedev in the quarters and taking Djokovic to three sets – with the last one a 7(7)-6(0) defeat.

Bautista Agut is again in the same bracket as Medvedev and will look to improve his career record against the world number two to 4-0. His last win came earlier this year at the ATP Miami in straight sets. His success against the highest-ranked men’s player in the tournament makes him a value pick at +3300 to win the 2021 ATP Cincinnati.

Andrey Rublev a Good Bet to Win his First ATP Masters 1000 Tournament

Ranked seventh in the world but with no ATP 1000 titles (or Grand Slams) – that is the story of Andrey Rublev. That is not to say he has not been in the mix – including at the Cincinnati Open. Rublev made the quarter-finals in 2019 – losing to eventual champion Daniil Medvedev.

Over the last year, Rublev has set career bests at three of the four Grand Slam – including quarter-finals at the 2020 US Open, 2021 Australian Open, and the fourth round at 2021 Wimbledon. Rublev’s draw at the tournament is favourable. He is the highest seed in his bracket, giving him an automatic bye to the round of 32.

He could face a few tough opponents – with Jannik Sinner at +1800 – someone else we have been eyeing to win the tournament.

However, we like Rublev’s chances at the 2021 Cincinnati Open. This year, he is 21-6 on hard courts, including a win at the 2021 Rotterdam Open (a 500 series event). Overall, a worthwhile betting pick to win the tournament.

Top-Seeded Ashleigh Barty a Great Bet

Ashleigh Barty comes into the 2021 Cincinnati Open as the top seed but not the player with top tennis betting odds to win the tournament. Barty won the 2021 Wimbledon tournament but followed it up with a first-round exit at the 2021 Summer Games. She should shake that off as a simple slip-up in what has otherwise been the best year of her career (35-7 with a career-high 83% winning percentage).

Barty has progressively gotten better at the Cincinnati Open – reaching the semi-finals in 2019 (she did not play in 2020). Barty had her greatest success on hard courts in that year, going 38-10 on the surface in 2019.

She does have a challenging draw – with three Grand Slam winners in her group. However, the first bye into the round of 32 helps her path to the semis, with her likely avoiding all but one of the three previous winners in her bracket. Overall, great value to bet the top seed to win the WTA Cincinnati Open.

Simona Halep – Finally Eek Out a Victory in Cincinnati

Three finals – no wins. That Simona Halep at the WTA Cincinnati Open. The Cincinnati Open is Halep’s best event where she has never won – with a 23-8 record and 74% winning percentage (both her best marks at an event she has never won).

Halep’s draw will pose some challenges – with Aryna Sabalenka and Karolina Pliskova. However, Sabalenka’s side is not a cakewalk, with some top-20 players on her path to the top of her bracket. Because of that, we see the best value in the bracket with Simona Halep, who may finally be able to capture a title at the Cincinnati Open.
