Things just haven’t been going according to plan for people interested in Delaware sports betting of late, and it’s starting to become a serious concern for local officials. According to a report, Delaware sports betting recorded another awful month, as the interest in sports betting appears to be getting lower and lower. Who in the world saw this coming?
Per that same report, Delaware fans who checked out the best-rated sportsbooks and put wagers forward made only $4.2 million worth of bets. That’s for the entire month of April. $4 million is something you’d probably get done in an hour at a sportsbook in Las Vegas. The fact that this amount was recorded in the 30 days of sports betting action is unacceptable. No one expected the kind of an April.
In 2021, around $5.5 million was bet on in April. That means that this year’s numbers were a 23 percent drop from last spring. Not only that, but March saw people in Delaware make $5.2 million worth of bets. Things were expected to keep on climbing leading up to the summer months, but the opposite was the case for April. Now, people are waiting to see what will end up happening in May.
The April numbers were the lowest in the past nine months. With the start of the Major League Baseball season and everyone checking out the MLB odds, people assumed there’d be plenty of interest. Not only that but futures bets were being looked at for the NFL, NBA, and more. The NBA playoffs kicked off in April, too, bringing plenty of excitement around the country. The same wasn’t the case in Delaware.

Delaware is in big need of a bounce-back month in May
It goes without saying, but Delaware is in big need of a bounce-back month in May to get sports betting back on track. Unfortunately, things have been falling of late, and it’s a growing issue. With such a low amount of bets being made, this of course means that it will have an impact on the revenue that’s brought in for the state as well. That money is used for various different resources.
According to a report, the revenue for Delaware in April was $314,000. That’s not even close to previous months. That’s also not enough to make the kind of a difference that government officials were hoping for when sports betting in the state was made legal. All in all, April was a nightmare month for sports betting, but that doesn’t mean that it’s time to panic just yet.
That’s because things really could get back on the up and up for May. The NBA playoffs are in full swing, and you already know that people will be looking at the NBA Finals’ odds consistently to see who is on the rise. People will be betting on the Warriors, Heat, Bucks, and more. There’s plenty of intrigues right now, and the best players in the world are making an impact on the hardwood for their teams.
With this, it also means that people are going to be amped up to make some bets on the biggest of games. Looking at the Boston and Milwaukee series, it really is such a close battle. The same can be said for the one between the 76ers and Heat. Millions of people are watching those contests. The hope is that people in Delaware will be betting on these massive games as well. We’ll find out soon enough.

The summer months have great potential for Delaware
Again, what’s important to remember here is that the summer months have great potential for Delaware and its sports betting. The main reason for this is the baseball season. People on the east coast of the USA love nothing more than enjoying baseball over the summer. And, what makes games even more interesting for people to enjoy on a daily basis? That’s right, betting.
Not only that, but football camps will start to get underway too and that’s when some serious dough will be exchanged. The seasons for both the NCAA and NFL will always bring in a huge crowd of bettors. This of course, is going to include people in Delaware, as they’ll be ready to bet at both levels. There’s so much drama and intrigue leading up to this year’s NFL season too. This only adds to the excitement.
People in Delaware are typically going to have high interest in the teams located in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. because of the proximity. Just because there’s no pro team in Delaware, that doesn’t mean that people aren’t going to be checking out the odds a bunch and making their bets. Instead, they’ll be excited to try and win some money.
This is all something to look forward to, but at the end of the day, it will be on people in Delaware to get to their favorite sportsbooks and place some bets. Only time will tell if this happens or not, but another April kind of month would be terrible to see.
