When it comes to people who enjoy sports betting in Delaware ever since it became legal, the numbers in previous months had been promising. Folks were enjoying the NFL season with passion. However, the new Delaware sports betting revenue numbers are concerning for people across the state. That’s because the stats for January came in, and they weren’t promising at all.
According to a local report, the year-over-year numbers for January took a massive dip, as they dropped by 30 percent. A lot of people have been left confused with this result, as January is known as one of the biggest sports betting months for football fans. With the NFL playoffs in full swing, and people checking out the Super Bowl odds with consistency, the numbers always figure to be high.
However, residents only betting $12.6 million on sports in January (which was down more than 20 percent in itself too) isn’t what people expected. On top of that, the revenue of $1.9 million was also a bummer, as that number indeed was down 30 percent from the previous year. What in the heckled to this collapse in the stats? No one can quite put their finger on it, but there is hope things can turn around.
Ever since sports betting became legal in Delaware, people have taken advantage of the new laws and put down plenty of bets. Before things were legalized in neighboring states, it made Delaware a popular tourist attraction too. However, with New Jersey, New York, and others joining forces with the sports betting world, it sure has had an impact on betting.
Eagles missing the playoffs also impacted Delaware betting
One thing to keep in mind is the Eagles missing the playoffs also impacted Delaware betting for January too. While that won’t show up in the numbers directly, you’ve got to figure this was the case. Since Delaware doesn’t have an NFL team, local citizens have adopted the team from Philadelphia as their own. With this, they follow the scores of the team religiously.
However, 2021 was a down year for the team. That wasn’t expected to be the case with Jalen Hurts entering the season with plenty of hype. The star quarterback struggled at times, however, and it was disappointing to see. On top of that, the team trading away stud tight end Zach Ertz broke plenty of hearts. It felt like a piece of the franchise was missing once Ertz left town.
To make things worse for Philadelphia, and people in Delaware for that matter, the Dallas Cowboys ended up winning the NFC East. No loyal Eagles fan is ever going to place bets on the Cowboys. That’s how much the fanbase hates that team. With that said, people were also incredibly happy to see that the Cowboys were taken down by the 49ers in the Wild Card Round.
With the Eagles not in the playoffs betting, fans were no question not too interested in checking out the NFL postseason odds. That’s typically going to be the case when your favorite team isn’t going to be in contention to take home the Lombardi Trophy. Come next year, we could see a rise in the revenue and overall betting numbers if the Eagles can put together a strong year and make the playoffs.

MLB season should ignite things for Delaware sports betting
Lastly, don’t forget that the MLB season should ignite things for Delaware sports betting as a whole. The major just recently dropped that the MLB lockout has ended and teams are already over at Spring Training. With Opening Day all set for April 7, this means that people will no question be ready to drop as many baseball bets as possible in the coming weeks.
People are going to be checking out the futures odds and of course, making moneyline bets too. The MLB campaign is one of the highest betting seasons for Delaware sports fans. Even though the state doesn’t have a pro team, there’s always going to be high interest in the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, and the teams that are located over in New York.
In the spring and summer, people from Delaware will often travel to outside states to catch a baseball game. People love driving to Philadelphia to watch the Phillies in action. With that, though, they’ll be sure to place some bets before they make their way to the ballpark. This is going to make the experience of watching the action live even better, especially if your wagers hit and you make money.
There’s been plenty of drama with the MLB, but with the lockout in the rearview mirror, this is going to open up countless betting chances for people across the country. Folks who live in a state where betting is legal will surely take advantage of things. Obviously, this will include those in Delaware. We should see a spike in the revenue numbers because of this in the coming months as well.
