According to a report, the state posted a total revenue of $211.7 million for January, which is the new high mark for the state. The total betting handle was nearly $2 billion, which is head-turning in its own right. The revenue, however, is incredible. This is a large amount of money that the local government will surely use for needed resources. The revenue has consistently been high, but this new record has a lot of people talking.
It goes without saying, but online betting played a major role in things being so great for January. Over the past year or so, we’ve seen some incredible online betting numbers, which play the main part in the revenue in turn being so high. People love the ability to place a wager from anywhere on the go. In New York, the major sports dominate the headlines around the year, which of course means more betting potential.
Now that the football season is wrapped up (more on that below), the betting attention for people in New York will surely switch to basketball for the next few weeks. As you might have been able to guess, NFL postseason wagers were tremendous for New York in January. Although the Jets and Giants failed to make the playoffs, there were countless eyes on the Buffalo Bills last month. Unfortunately, once again, the Bills faced off against the Chiefs following the regular season and they weren’t able to come out on top. In the Divisional Round, Buffalo lost to Kansas City.
Just like that, their season was ended and people all over Buffalo were heartbroken. It was yet another setback for quarterback Josh Allen. Now, this team is hoping that they can find a way to increase their Super Bowl betting odds for the 2024 campaign and knock down the Chiefs if these two sides face off again. Kansas City always gives Buffalo issues, which has been a nightmare to see.
Despite the Bills suffering the loss to KC early on in the playoffs, it didn’t have a negative impact on NFL betting overall. In the AFC Championship Game, people were fired up to place bets on the massive showdown between the Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. Patrick Mahomes going up against Lamar Jackson? It was must-see television. In the end, though, Mahomes and the Chiefs were able to get back to the Super Bowl.
With the Lombardi Trophy on the line, the Chiefs took down the San Francisco 49ers and Mahomes was the Super Bowl MVP again. The bets for that game were through the roof, with the Super Bowl easily being one of the biggest betting events of the year. Soto is widely considered one of the best home-run hitters out there. Him being paired with slugger Aaron Judge in the middle of the lineup is going to be a huge problem for opposing teams. With that said, teams like the Rangers, Rays, Dodgers, Braves and others are entering the new season with a bit more confidence. The Orioles will look to repeat as AL East champions too.
Having said that, there’s plenty of buzz surrounding the team from the Bronx. With great power in the middle of the lineup and a healthy starting rotation, New York could surprise a lot of teams in 2024. From start to finish this season, fans are going to place a ton of bets on their favorite team. It could be a season to remember for the Yankees, no doubt about that.
