MLB Betting News This Month | Yordan Alvarez MVP odds, World Series shift & Market Analysis | July, 2026

In the blink of an eye, we are less than two weeks away from the All-Star Game getting started, with the first half of the season coming to a close. It’s wild to think about, but next thing you know the postseason will sneak up on us. Because of this, the MLB betting trends are starting to shift a bit, and plenty of MLB betting odds are changing. This is something that both fans and bettors follow quite closely.
For starters, Yankees slugger Aaron Judge seemed like a lock to take home AL MVP honors, but that’s no longer the case, which we’ll cover at length below. On top of that, even more good news has come in for the Yankees, with Cam Schlittler strengthening his odds for the AL Cy Young. Could those two help the Yankees push for a title this season? We cover that and more in this piece.
Top MLB betting storylines
There have been some pretty eye-opening MLB betting storylines this week, starting on June 1, for fans to follow closely. Here are the main ones on our minds:
- Yordan Alvarez is the new AL MVP favorite
- The Texas Rangers are pushing Seattle in the AL West
- Things are going from bad to worse for the Red Sox
- Cam Schittler feels like a lock to win AL Cy Young
- Shohei Ohtani is running away with the NL MVP honor
- The White Sox are making moves in the AL Central
- The Brewers are making noise in the NL Central
- Aaron Judge remains out with a rib fracture
World Series odds movement
It’s funny how things can change pretty dang quickly. In June, the Seattle Mariners started catching fire and it seemed like they were finally reaching a turning point. However, July hasn’t quite gone according to plan for the AL West side, as a slow month has them now in second place in the division. With this, the Texas Rangers are in first place, giving people in the Pacific Northwest plenty to sweat about.
What’s frustrating with Seattle is that as strong as the pitching is, the team is quite inconsistent at the dish. It’s been a disappointing season for Cal Raleigh, who was in the AL MVP hunt last year. That’s surely not the case this spring thus far, though it should be noted that Julio Rodriguez has looked great. Despite that, the Rangers are the ones who are looking sharp, with Texas fans hoping that they can keep things going for the second half of the season.
The #TexasRangers’ 7-3 road trip made them buyers.
Seager and Gore made the shopping list less comfortable.
A bat and a leverage arm are obvious.
The starter question is the uncomfortable one.

Kyle Schwarber is the new Home Run king favorite
With Aaron Judge being sidelined (more on that in the next section), this has impacted several different things in the bigs. For starters, Kyle Schwarber has strengthened his case to be the home run king this season. As of July 2, the lefty slugger leads the major league with his 30 home runs. There are some guys right behind him, but Schwarber has been on a tear of late and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.
Right now, he holds -115 odds to lead the bigs in homers this year. Despite that, Yordan Alvarez, Hunter Goodman and Byron Buxton are in the hunt, hoping to give Schwarber some pressure to pull things off. It will be interesting to see how things go down there, but Schwarber sure appears to be in a good spot to keep things rocking in the second half of the year as well.
Aaron Judge’s injury has impacted the AL MVP odds
In some rough news for the Yankees, Judge has been out since early June with his rib fracture and there are no signs of him returning soon. The issue here is that Judge is still in pain, which makes swinging the bat a bit uncomfortable for him. With it being a long season, New York of course isn’t going to want to rush him back either. Because of that, Yordan Alvarez of the Astros is the new favorite with the best AL MVP betting odds. He’s playing at an unreal level right now too.
Shohei Ohtani’s MVP odds are quite eye-opening
In terms of wagers, it’s tough to make it seem like something might be set in stone with a full second half of the season left, but Shohei Ohtani is doing everything he can to capture the NL MVP honor early. Ohtani is in the middle of an incredible year for the Dodgers, who are looking to three-peat as the World Series champs.
As of July 2, the lefty is hitting .291 with 18 home runs. On top of that, he’s 8-2 on the mound in 13 starts, with a 1.58 ERA. The fact that he’s so dominant pitching, while also putting on a show at the dish, is incredible. Because of that, it’s no surprise at all that the Vegas oddsmakers are showing him so much NL MVP love.
Cam Schlittler keeps moving closer to Cy Young glory
With the Yankees in particular, there’s a reason they are having so much success right now. Young hurler Cam Schlittler has been incredible to watch. On the year, he’s 8-5, with a 2.08 ERA. The hard-throwing righty has been so fun to watch, winning over the fanbase. It’s going to be imperative for him to keep playing at a high level after the All-Star break.
The Yankees hold the best World Series betting odds in terms of AL teams, and Schlittler is a big reason for that. With Judge and Giancarlo Stanton injured too, it’s going to put extra pressure on the pitching staff as a whole to keep stepping up. Schlittler is at the top of the list, and his performances have been unreal. Only time will tell if he keeps things going or not, but in terms of the MLB betting analysis, it will be imperative for him to keep things strong for the Yankees’ season outlook.
“Here’s the scary part… Aaron Judge is not close to getting back. If you told me that he played next in mid-August or the beginning of September, that wouldn’t be a surprise. Giancarlo Stanton is not close to getting back. He’s at least 6 weeks out.

NL Cy Young odds include a new favorite
This was a shakeup that not a lot of people were ready for. Over in the National League, Jacob Misiorowski has been incredible for the Brewers this year and he has Milwaukee making moves, as they’re looking strong to win the NL Central this year. With that, Misiorowski holds the best NL Cy Young odds, which has come in as a total surprise. Previously, Paul Skenes seemed like he was going to run away with things, but that’s no longer the case.
AL Division futures odds include the White Sox turning heads
For the most part, things have looked pretty consistent throughout the divisions in the major leagues, but there has been quite the difference in recent weeks in the AL Central. That’s because the Chicago White Sox are heating up at the right time, giving both the Tigers and Guardians something to worry about. While the White Sox have struggled in recent seasons, Chicago is now playing great, giving the club’s fans something to finally smile about.
The Braves are hoping to hold off the Phillies in the NL East
Last but not least, things are taking shape in the NL East, with Atlanta and Philly jockeying back and forth for the top spot. As of July 2, the Braves hold a three-game lead over the Phillies, but with the second half of the season still on the way, there’s more than enough time for more things to change there.
However, with how great Atlanta has looked, that’s not going to be an easy task for Schwarber, Bryce Harper and the rest of the team. Soon enough, we should find out who will emerge and keep creating space, but from our chair, it’s going to be tough for Philly to take down Atlanta.
