The next session is set to begin on Feb. 6 and it has been reported that a new gaming project will be introduced. With that said, legal sports betting will be included on things and plenty of politicians are seeing it as a top priority for 2024. Sports betting has been a controversial topic of conversation for people in the state, but there’s no question that it’s needed, especially with so many places in the USA moving forward with it.
One thing to consider too is that in the south, Florida made quite the statement when they were able to re-launch things. While the sports betting case could go back to the Supreme Court, the numbers have been sensational in recent weeks. This alone has people talking about what could happen in nearby states, including Alabama. While there are no professional teams in Alabama, sports popularity can’t be measured.
Soon enough, legislators will meet and discuss whether or not to move forward with the next steps. Alabama still has countless loops to get through to push forward with sports betting, but the first one will be for legislators to get on the same page and decide that this is a good idea. In a stunner, Saban decided to step down as head coach of the Alabama football program following the loss to Michigan in the College Football Playoff. Michigan went on to win the title, but that didn’t take away from the fact that people could not stop talking about the Saban news.
Since then, Alabama has already found his replacement, hiring former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer as the team’s new head coach. DeBoer posted a 14-1 season with the Huskies and he helped power UW to the National Championship Game against Michigan. DeBoer has been a fast riser in the coaching ranks and while he has big shoes to fill, people think he’s the right man for the job to try and help get Alabama back to its usual level.

Following Coach Saban is an honor. He has been the standard for college football, and his success is unprecedented. I would not have left Washington for just any school.”
With Saban gone and Deboer now in, plenty of players from Alabama have entered the transfer portal. With this update, the Crimson Tide’s NCAAF betting odds for next season have already dropped, which was expected. However, if DeBoer can right the ship and get people to start believing in the SEC powerhouse again, then plenty of nerves could be calmed in the near future. DeBoer is facing a ton of pressure, but folks are hopeful he can live up to the massive expectations.

This is a problem that has been present for far too long and things really get to a new level during the football season. In the coming weeks, people are going to be finding different ways to put down money on the Super Bowl. Come this weekend, both the AFC Championship Game and NFC Championship Game will take place. Once the two finalists are locked in, we can fully expect a high number of bets on the big game being placed. Off-shore accounts and illegal bookies are being used frequently by people in Alabama and the only way that’s going to change is if legal options are put in place. Come next month, we’ll have a better idea if that will one day happen or not, but the hope is that things can be finalized in the coming months. Then, everyone will be waiting for a launch date to be revealed.
