Florida Sports Betting Case Could Still Head to the Supreme Court

Just when you thought everything was said and done for the Florida sports betting battle, more nervousness has arrived for proponents. Recently, the owners of the Magic City Casino have decided to keep on trying to get things shut down, despite legal wagers arriving last month. Now, though, the Florida sports betting case could still head to the Supreme Court after all and a final decision could be coming within the next few months.

According to a report, the defendants in this case indeed are still trying to have things flipped once again. As you might remember, Florida sports betting first arrived in October of 2021, but a U.S. District Judge ordered for the project to be shut down over multiple lawsuits that were filed. It took more than two years for sports betting to return, but now it’s up in the air how long things will be allowed to keep running.

Right now, online sports betting has been flying in Florida and more of the same is expected with Super Bowl betting around the corner (more on that below). With the success of things over the past month, lawmakers and officials are fired up over the numbers that have come in. However, if the Supreme Court rules in favor of the Magic City Casino owners, then panic will arrive for sports fans in the state.

As things stand, it feels a bit unknown what the Supreme Court will decide. The Seminole Tribe and Governor Ron DeSantis worked tirelessly to get sports betting done and they couldn’t be happier that things have been rocking since the re-launch. Within the next few weeks and months, more updates on this will surely be on the way, but the hope is that online sports betting won’t be going anywhere.

NFL betting for the postseason will continue to be strong for Florida

While things are a bit in flux, there’s no question that NFL betting for the postseason will continue to be strong for Florida. Although the Jaguars didn’t make it in, goodness, countless eyes are going to be on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, especially after they took down the Eagles in the Wild Card Round. On Monday night, the Bucs shocked the world, dominating Philly by a score of 32-9.

In the win, quarterback Baker Mayfield, who silenced his haters, was downright brilliant. Meanwhile on defense, the Bucs had quite the plan for Jalen Hurts, who looked nothing like a superstar QB in this one. With the Bucs now getting ready for the Divisional Round, there are going to be a lot of people rooting for Mayfield to keep this unreal run going. He’s playing with a ton of confidence too and Tampa Bay has elevated its Super Bowl betting odds.

“He was sharp. I mean, the whole game he was sharp,” Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said after Tampa Bay took down Philly on Monday night. “Like he said, they dropped some balls but he kept coming back, he kept going to them. He was putting the ball only in a place where they could catch it. He didn’t turn it over. They kept making play after play after play. He did a hell of a job.”

Next up for the Bucs will be a showdown this weekend against the Lions in Detroit. There’s a trip to the NFC Championship Game on the line here and the Lions are strong favorites ahead of kickoff. However, Tampa Bay has new-found confidence thanks to the amazing play of the defense and Mayfield. Soon enough, we’ll find out who will move on to the next round, but we fully expect plenty of NFL betting online wagers to be placed for the Bucs in Florida.

Online wagers have been tremendous for Florida thus far

As we inch closer to the spring months, the great thing for the state has been that online wagers have been tremendous for Florida thus far. The football betting has of course been sensational, but if things aren’t brought down by the Supreme Court, then we can get excited about MLB betting starting in March and April.

Once the Major League Baseball regular season arrives, something tells us that things are going to continue to grow. There’s plenty of buzz surrounding the Marlins and Rays before Opening Day gets here. The Rays are considered big-time contenders to win the AL East, but the Yankees, Orioles and Red Sox are going to do everything possible to prevent that from happening.

However, Tampa Bay was able to reload during the offseason and expectations are going to be quite high for them in 2024. With that, online betting is also going to be through the roof. Again, however, we have to wait and hope that the Supreme Court doesn’t step in to ruin everything. There’s optimism that things will stay as they are and that more bad news will be on the way for the owners of the Magic City Casino. Before Opening Day, there should be more clarity on the situation for folks.
