Supreme Court Extension Was Filed for the Florida Sports Betting Case

While people were hoping for updated Florida sports betting news to be finalized in the near future, it looks like there’s been a slight delay in things. For a while now, the owners of the Magic City Casino have been working overtime to try and get legal betting shut down – if that happens, it’d be the second time they’ve been successful in making this happen. However, we won’t know how things turn out for about a month, as a Supreme Court extension was filed for the Florida Sports betting case.

Originally, the case was set to be heard by the Supreme Court on April 12. However, according to a report, an extension indeed has been filed and things will once again be brought up on May 13. This delays things by about a month, giving Florida extra time to prepare their defense on the case. However, a lot of people are worried because things haven’t been tossed out the window and the door is still open for things to be taken off the table.

As you might recall, Florida was able to launch things in the fall of 2021, but a U.S. District Judge ordered things to be shut down not long after. This was brutal for people in Florida, as they were enjoying online sports betting for the short period of time that things were allowed to be in operation. Now, there’s a chance that the same decision could come in once again, this time from the Supreme Court.

Luckily for sports fans in the area, no decision will come in until May 13 at the earliest. However, things could end up getting pushed back again into the summer months. No one knows how things will end up going down, but both sides are ready to present their best case here. It will be interesting to see what ends up happening early next month, but sports betting proponents are hopeful the worst-case scenario won’t arrive.

MLB betting has been strong already in Florida for 2024

In a bit of positive news for the state, MLB betting has been strong already in Florida for 2024. That shouldn’t be a major surprise, as baseball is one of the most popular sports in the state. Both the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays are hoping to make a ton of noise this year, but that’s not going to be easy, especially for the Rays. While Tampa Bay is no stranger to success, they don’t have strong MLB betting odds to win the AL East this year.

That’s because the New York Yankees continue to be on a tear. Right now, the Yankees are 12-4 on the season and they’re showing no signs of slowing down. As you’ve probably read about already this spring, new slugger Juan Soto has been as good as advertised, as he is hitting the cover off the ball. Not only that, but Aaron Judge is back to his old ways, hitting the cover off the ball. These two are one of the best duos in the bigs.

Having said that, people are still excited to see how the Rays and Marlins can do the rest of the campaign. There’s going to be plenty of excitement surrounding these two clubs if they’re able to make the postseason. It remains to be seen if that’s going to happen or not, but they most definitely have a great chance to make that happen. Only time will tell if that goes down or not, but people will be ready to bet big on the playoffs regardless.

However, there’s surely some worry about what might happen in the Supreme Court. People in the state don’t even want to think about World Series betting not being an option for folks once late October arrives. The World Series is one of the most exciting times of the year for baseball fans and people in Florida are ready to place legal bets on the action for the first time. We sure hope that ends up being the case for them.

The hope is that NFL betting won’t be impacted in Florida either

It goes without saying, but the hope is that NFL betting won’t be impacted in Florida either. It’s hard to believe, but the 2024 NFL season is sneaking up on us. The NFL Draft is coming later this month, which will of course be big for the Jaguars, Buccaneers and Dolphins. Of those three teams, Miami has the most to gain in the first round, but it’s up in the air if they’re done spending big in free agency or not.

Right now, the Dolphins hold the best NFL betting odds to sign star wideout Odell Beckham Jr. This team already features Tyreek Hill and Jayden Waddle, so adding OBJ would be unreal for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. We’ll find out soon enough if that will end up going down or not, but folks sure are excited about the possibility. They’ll be even more excited if full NFL betting is allowed in Florida once Week 1 gets here too.
