Southern Illinois Casino Officially Debuted In-Person Sports Betting

You’ve got to love this time of year for Illinois sports betting, as the wagers are high for both MLB and NFL action. While online betting is a huge hit for people in the state, sports fans also have a great time being able to travel to different casinos to place their money down as well. That’s why people are so excited about what’s going on at Harrah’s Metropolis. Last weekend, the Southern Illinois casino officially debuted in-person sports betting and folks are thrilled.

Indeed, things were kicked off last Thursday morning. This was obviously major, as it came on the day of the start of the new NFL season. According to a report, plenty of people placed in-person bets on the Chiefs vs. Lions showdown. This was fantastic for the casino, as the majority of the bets were placed on Kansas City to win. In shocking fashion, Detroit was able to upset KC, leading to a big win for the casino.

“We are excited to bring sports betting to our valued customers at Harrah’s Metropolis,” Executive Sherry Wessel said in a statement on the launch of the new in-person sportsbook. “The launch of our sportsbooks at Harrah’s Metropolis is just the beginning. We look forward to serving sports fans on every platform and offering our customers unforgettable experiences.”

While Metropolis is located a good five hours away from Chicago, the major city with the pro teams in the state, there have still been plenty of visitors to the new sportsbook. Keep in mind that Metropolis also isn’t too far away from the state’s border, so it could lead to people from different areas making their way to town to place some wagers as well. All in all, this feels like a major win for lawmakers and officials in Illinois.

Chicago Bears bets are already taking off at the casino’s sportsbook

To no one’s surprise, Chicago Bears bets are already taking off at the casino’s sportsbooks. However, the Bears let their fanbase down in a major way on Sunday. Chicago hosted the Green Bay Packers for what was supposed to be a thrilling NFC North showdown at Soldier Field. Plenty of Chicago supporters were hoping that the Bears would be able to make a statement in going up against Green Bay.

That wasn’t the case, though, as the Packers dominated and they were able to leave the stadium with an easy win. This was the first time quarterback Jordan Love led out Green Bay for a Week 1 showdown – he has the impossible task of trying to replace future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is now with the New York Jets. Love looked fantastic running the offense, though, as he had a game to remember. Justin Fields struggled for the Bears, which no one expected.

“It sucks… It sucks,” Field said on Chicago getting dominated at home on Sunday against Love and the Packers. “Rivalry, Week One, going against the Packers, it sucks. Nobody’s in good spirits. This one hurts. I’m not going to lie to you. I want to say sorry to teammates, to fans who were rooting for us. But we’ll bounce back.”

This was only Week 1 for the Bears and they still have plenty of time to turn things around. However, that loss to the Packers was quite deflating. Regardless of the result, Bears fans are going to keep betting strongly on this team, as they’re hoping Week 2 will be a different story for them. Chicago is hoping to win the NFC North this year, but the Lions and Packers are looking like the favorites thus far.

Local sportsbooks are also enjoying bets on the Chicago Cubs

While there has been plenty of excitement for the start of the NFL season, don’t forget that local sportsbooks are also enjoying bets on the Chicago Cubs right now too. With the end of the regular campaign almost here, MLB betting has been quite high and things are only going to get bigger and better once the postseason arrives. The Cubs are in prime position to win the NL Central, which would be amazing to see.

While the Cubs don’t have strong World Series betting odds, you never know what this young team might be able to accomplish in the playoffs. There has been plenty of excitement surrounding the Cubs from start to finish this year. From our chair, they could record an upset or two in the postseason, but it’s going to be tough for anyone to take down the Braves and Dodgers in the NL.

The Braves still hold the No. 1 odds to win the World Series and that’s not going to change soon. However, until the season comes to a close for the Cubs, people all over Chicago and throughout the state are going to place wagers on them. They’re going to be a team to watch in the postseason and their play will surely have in-person sportsbooks packed for some of the primetime action that will be on the way.
