He made his debut for the Spanish senior team in that same season, featuring in a Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia. As has become routine, the match saw him become Spain’s youngest-ever player and youngest goalscorer, in a 7–1 victory.

Euro 2024 proved to be yet another competition in which Yamal took every record available. He became the youngest player ever to appear at a European Championship, the youngest player to score and assist, and the youngest player to appear in the knockout stages. His goal against France in the Semi Finals saw him become the youngest goalscorer in European Championship history, breaking a record that had stood since 1958.

As expected Yamal took the Young Player of the tournament award, as Spain claimed victory with a 2-1 win against England in Berlin.

Who is he up against this summer?

Despite being the favourite, Yamal there are still questions over Yamal’s fitness. The first step will be proving to De la Fuente that he is ready to start.

Luckily for Yamal, Spain are also favorites to win the tournament, so there is expectation that there should be enough game time to prove himself.

The PSG and France duo Désiré Doué and Warren Zaïre-Emery look set to provide the biggest opposition to Yamal claiming the crown. Both players are in contention to start in a France squad that is expected to go deep in the tournament, with Doué priced at +500 and Zaïre-Emery at +1200 in the Young Player Award market.

Should Yamal be fit, we should expect him to play a similarly starring role in 2026. De la Fuente sees him as a key component of attack.
