Premier League Top Goalscorer Picks 2021/22

The English Premier League takes a break for international fixtures this weekend, making it an ideal time to look at top goalscorer betting and bring you some picks.

The season is still young, and all sides have only played three matches each.

The transfer window shuts on Tuesday 31st August as well. So this means no new additions can be made to English Premier League squads until January.

This means that after Tuesday you can place your soccer bets safe in the knowledge that someone like Neymar isn’t going to turn up at Manchester City, etc.

Massive changes have already taken place in the Moneylines this season. And now the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United has further spiced up what was already a red hot betting market.

So with 35 matches remaining, who will end up top scorer and win the Golden Boot in the Premier League? Let’s take a look at the latest Moneylines and main candidates.

Harry Kane +600

Early season betting favorite Harry Kane has seen his odds drift out to an appealing-looking +600. The England striker started the season at +350 and hasn’t yet scored in any of Tottenham Hotspurs’ opening three matches.

Kane was also looking to move to Manchester City, and that would have seen him getting stacks more chances in front of goal. Now that move has fallen through. So Kane will have to rely on the service he gets from his Spurs’ teammates, meaning he’s less likely to top the scoring charts.

Playing at Spurs hasn’t stopped Kane from winning the Premier League Golden Boot three times previously. The last of which came last season.

Will Kane sulk over his move to Manchester City not happening? So far this season, he has picked up more yellow cards (2) than goals scored.

Despite all this, at odds of +600, I still believe Harry Kane is of great value to be the top scorer and win the Golden Boot for the fourth time.

Romelu Lukaku +300

The favorite with top sportsbooks on the Moneyline is Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker is +300 with BetUS. So far this season, Lukaku has one goal from his two appearances.

Chelsea is looking like the main contender to Manchester City to win the English Premier League this season. So this means punters expect Lukaku to score plenty of goals.

In his two matches so far for Chelsea, he has certainly looked good.

In his previous spell at Manchester United this wasn’t the case though. If Lukaku is the real deal, as we are told he is, then he is certainly a candidate.

Cristiano Ronaldo +300

Lukaku is a joint favorite with a man who hasn’t even kicked a ball for his team this season, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Yes, the new Manchester United striker has gone straight to the top of the Moneyline, showing just how respected he is as a goalscorer.

In his first stint with Manchester United, Ronaldo won the Golden Boot in 2007/08. That season the Portuguese scored 31 times in 34 matches.

The scary thing about Ronaldo is that back in 2007/08, he was more of a winger than an out-and-out striker. And he is now regarded as a better goal scorer than he was back then.

Is he worth risking at those short odds? I’m not sure and I’d like to wait and see how he settles back into the Premier League first.

Mohamed Salah +500

Following closely behind Lukaku and Ronaldo is Mohamed Salah of Liverpool FC.

The Egyptian already has two goals this season for his team, and he is a twice previous winner of the Golden Boot.

Back in the 2017/18 season, Salah scored an astonishing 32 goals in 36 matches for Liverpool.

The following season he won the award again with a more sober total of 22 goals in 38 fixtures. On this occasion, he jointly won the award with teammate Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal.

The downside to betting on Salah is that he misses a part of the season early in 2022 to play for Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations.

This explains why he is +500 when he already has two goals and a lead over his rivals.

The Best of the Rest

Next in the betting comes Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton. The England striker is +1600 and with three goals this season looks like a credible pick.

In the 2020/21 season, Calvert-Lewin scored 16 goals in 33 matches for Everton.

That doesn’t suggest he’s going to outscore the likes of Ronaldo and Lukaku this season, but at +1600 he might be considered outside value.

A player who really is worth a small outside bet using one of our betting bonuses is Bruno Fernandes.

Last season the Manchester United midfielder scored 18 goals and was the third top goalscorer in the English Premier League.

This season he already has 3 goals to his name, having bagged a hat-trick on the opening day of the season against Leeds.

At +2500 with Bovada, Fernandes is certainly worth a bet.

The only downside to the bet is with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, who will take the penalties? Fernandes is the designated penalty taker at Old Trafford. Will he lose that role to his Portuguese teammate and national captain?

Once we find out the answer, we will have a better idea of who is likely to score the most goals. But at those odds, I really do think he’s worth a small outlay.
