costarica_ticosCosta Rica will try to extend their dreamed World Cup when they take on Netherlands in the quarterfinals in the 2014 Brazil competition, at Salvador, in Bahia, at the Arena Fonte Nova, this Saturday at 4 PM ET.

The Ticos are the Cinderella story of the tournament as they won group D over Uruguay, Italy and England, to then beat Greece in penalties.  Costa Rica didn’t suppose to be here, but they managed it with order and discipline on every line; their team is dangerous and they know it.

“We will not rest on our laurels. Our World Cup is far from over,” said coach Jorge Luis Pinto. “We have shown that we can play good football and that makes me proud.”

Netherland has four wins in four matches in this competition; they started by smashing Spain to then having a complicated encounter against Mexico in the round of 16.  They can’t afford to lose against the weakest of the eight teams remaining as they want to be back to the final.

“They had faith and believed till the very end,” coach Louis Van Gaal said about their win against Mexico. “The humidity was not in our favour. We were fresher and fitter than the Mexicans. Not only did my players have the belief that they could perform today, they also were fit for this match.  Yes, it was an escape but in the second half we showed that we could create more opportunities and we played three different systems.”

The World Cup odds have Netherlands -187 to win and Costa Rica +700.
