A major Texas sports betting twist has arrived and it’s something that has thousands of people talking. For years now, countless people in the Lone Star State have been waiting for the legalization to come. However, Texas has had some bad luck, but that rough streak could be coming to a close soon. That’s because a Texas sports betting bill has been pre-filed, which has provided loads of optimism for it to come in 2023.
That’s right, earlier this month, Texas democratic senator Carol Alvarado officially pre-filed a sports betting bill, with legislation right around the corner. That legislative session is coming in January. In order for the bill to pass, two-thirds of those in legislation would need to approve that. We’ve seen things die on the table in legislation, which has truly been quite rough to see for so many.
There’s some excitement around this bill, however, with so many people hoping that it passes in legislation. If that does end up happening, then it will come down to people voting on the November 2023 ballot. Even getting things on the ballot would be considered a major victory for Texas, but you never know how things will play out there. If it does pass in legislation, then the expectation is that people will be thrilled to vote it in.
However, that was also how people thought things would go down in California. For this most-recent ballot, there were two propositions on the ballot for people to vote on. In stunning fashion, the good people of California passionately voted no on both of them, preventing sports betting from going down in the Golden State. Now, no one knows when it will come to California. Could things arrive a bit sooner in Texas?
Two months before the Texas legislature is set to kick off its 2023 legislative session, Sen. @CarolforTexas has pre-filed a bill to legalize sports betting (and gaming) in the Lone Star state. https://t.co/E8BoVNRRLK

People are pushing for sports betting to finally come
With this latest update, people are pushing for sports betting to finally come. With so many sensational sports teams in Texas, it only makes sense for people to be able to make legal wagers. The pro teams in the area know how much this will benefit them as well. For a while now, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been open about his desire for legal sports betting. His stance isn’t going to change.
“Gaming, as it pertains to our game, is here,” Jones said not too long ago on the subject matter. “It’s frankly been here. But you’re talking about a different form of it, a more recognized form of it, a more sanctioned form of it. Yes I do. Without in any way not being sensitive to the great people that want to keep everything in the right way, but the handwriting is on the wall. Gaming has been here for a long time.”
With Jones’ comments, it of course has people interested in being able to check the NFL betting odds soon enough and make bets from their home state. That’s currently not possible, but the wheels feel like they’re in motion for a change to arrive. The thing that has some people worried is that this isn’t the first time a bill has tried to lead the way for that change. In the past, nothing has happened.
People are anxious that nothing will be different here. It’s not fair to even think about the possibility of this new bill falling in legislation. We’ll find out soon enough how things are recorded, but you never know, perhaps this new bill is finally the one to make history in Texas. Sports betting is going down illegally and that can’t continue to happen. The state can’t keep losing out on millions of dollars like this each and every single year.

Sports betting revenue has monster potential in Texas
With everything in mind, it’s obvious that sports betting revenue has monster potential in Texas. This is one of the biggest states in the USA, with loads of sports talent. This fact alone will have people racing to make their bets. Just think about this for example too, remember Jim McInvale AKA Mattress Mack? He had millions and millions of dollars on the line for the 2022 World Series.
He had his money on the Houston Astros. The AL West powerhouse ended up winning it all, bringing home the title. Well, thanks to that result, Mattress Mack brought home around $75 million, which was a new record for a World Series. Now, imagine if Mack would have lost his bets? Then, he would have been in the whole a decent amount. However, none of his bets were able to be made in Texas – he had to travel outside of the state to post those wagers.
Down the road, others are certainly going to be ready to lay down millions on the Astros and other teams. This could go down in Texas and it could result with the state bringing in some serious dough. See the possibilities there? This is what politicians in Texas know all about, which is why many are pushing for legalization. Well, the wait could end come 2023.
