Inter On an Upward Curve

Inter Miami made a terrible start to its season, losing six games in the run, but has shown steady improvement since then, picking up five victories in a row across all competitions.

That upward curve flattened slightly when it came up against Nashville SC last time out. Phil Neville’s team lost 2-1 at GEODIS Park but the scoreline almost certainly flattered the Herons as Nashville was on top for most of the game, so Neville will be looking for a much stronger effort this weekend.

Inter Miami has demonstrated the ability to compete with the best teams in the Eastern Conference, as it showed when defeating the second-placed New England Revolution 2-1 in its most recent home match, but greater consistency is required to turn that potential into success. There is plenty of motivation for the team this weekend. Inter will be able to leapfrog its opponents and advance to the playoffs with a victory on Saturday, which could be a springboard for the rest of its season.

Orlando Looking for Form

Orlando City will be relieved to be back on the road this weekend, as it struggled at home yet again against New York City FC last time out, drawing 1-1 after Gabriel Segal’s late equaliser.

Orlando has the worst home record of any team in the Western Conference, but has performed admirably on the road, losing just one match away from Orlando prior to this month, against CF Montreal. The team of Oscar Pareja is winless in its last three MLS matches and was eliminated from the US Open Cup by Charlotte Independence without registering a single shot on target.

Despite not being in the best of form, Orlando City is still within striking distance of the playoffs. It has also played one fewer game than the two teams immediately above it in the table, and a victory on Saturday would enable Orlando to overtake both of them.

MLS Match Betting Head-to-Head

Inter Miami is one of the newest teams in MLS, having joined in 2020, so although this is an all-Florida match, it is one of the newer rivalries in the league.

The head-to-head record shows that the first meeting between the teams in July 2020 ended in a win for Orlando, although the two teams shared the first four games. Since then, however, Orlando has had the better of the rivalry, losing only one of the last six meetings, although that defeat came when they last met, last October when Miami recorded a 4-1 victory.

Prior to that goal-packed game, however, the two teams had played out four games in which there were only three goals, including three draws, two of them finishing scoreless.

MLS Match Betting Team News

Inter Miami midfielder Gregore will be unavailable due to a foot injury, and despite making reasonable progress in his recovery from a muscular issue, forward Robbie Robinson is also likely to miss the match.

Leonardo Campana has not scored in his last three matches, so Josef Martinez may be inserted as a striker and DeAndre Yedlin could replace Harvey Neville on the right wing. Luca Petrasso remains sidelined with a thigh injury for Orlando City, so Kyle Smith, who was introduced against New York City FC last time out, could retain his starting position.

Ercan Kara has registered goals in his last two games, and the Austrian is expected to lead the attack again, with Facundo Torres just behind him in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

MLS Match Betting Pick

Inter Miami has arguably shown the best form of these two teams and that should make it the favorite here, with home advantage. However, Orlando has an excellent record on the road, and when it comes to local derby games, form is not always that relevant.

In this case, it could be worth looking past their last five-goal meeting, and focusing on the previous four, which produced three draws and very few goals. With a potential morale boosting rise up the Eastern Conference at stake here, the draw could well be the best betting pick.
