Pick LAFC to Triumph in the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League

LAFC has battled to the final of the CONCACAF Champions League and has a great chance to become the second consecutive US winner of this competition.

Who do Bettors Favor?

So far, there are no odds available for this game with the best-rated online sportsbooks so it is difficult to know who bettors will favor. It seems likely, however, that the reigning MLS champions LAFC will be rated as favorites, certainly for the Los Angeles leg of the final, though Leon will be the favorites in Mexico.

CONCACAF Champions League Briefing

The CONCACAF Champions League dates back to 1962, although it was effectively relaunched in 2008, when it took on the Champions League name and its current structure.

The tournament is open to teams from nations across the CONCACAF region, but it has been dominated by teams from Mexico and the US. Eight different clubs have won this tournament, and seven of them come from Mexico, while the US is represented by the Seattle Sounders, which won it last year.

Canada, meanwhile, has produced two finalists: Montreal and Toronto, although both clubs play their soccer in MLS and neither was able to win their final. LAFC meanwhile is making its second appearance in the final, having reached that stage in 2020, where it was ultimately defeated by Tigres.

LAFC Confidence High

The reigning MLS Cup holder has shrugged off the difficulty of kicking off their season with both MLS and Champions League fixtures to deal with and have battled to the final of this competition for only the second time in the franchise’s history.

The semi-final clash was a rematch with an MLS rival, Philadelphia, but it turned out to be a one-sided fixture, ultimately, which LAFC clinched in the second leg with a 3-0 victory. Goals from Timothy Tillman, Kwado Opoku and Denis Bouanga were enough to give LAFC the win, although its task was made easier by Olivier Mbazo’s sending off in the second half.

The season has been going just as well in domestic soccer. LAFC is top of the Western Conference, once again dominating its rivals, having lost only one of its 12 games so far. It leads Seattle Sounders by two points, but has two games in hand over the Sounders, thanks to its Champions League exertions, and it also boasts the second best offensive and best defensive record in the Western Conference. Confidence will certainly be high as the Black and Gold aims to make continental soccer history.

Club Leon Come Through Entertaining Semi Final

Club Leon’s route to the final of the Champions League was less secure than that of LAFC. It eventually prevailed 4-3 on aggregate over its national rivals Tigres in what turned out to be an entertaining semi-final in which Tigres held a 2-1 lead after the first leg.

In the second leg, goals from Angel Mena, Adonis Frias and Fidel Ambriz were enough to secure the win for Leon, although Tigres made the Leon players battle all the way, scoring an tie-levelling goal in the second half of that second leg, before Frias settled the tie a little over ten minutes from time.

Remarkably, this will be the first time that Leon has appeared in the final of the Champions League, but unlike LAFC, it does not go into this game in good form. It finished sixth in the Liga MX Clausura season, and was knocked out at the first stage in the Reclassification playoffs, losing to Atletico San Luis.

Champions League Match Betting

It has taken a long time for MLS clubs to begin to make an impact in this tournament, but the signs are that teams from the US and Canada are finally mastering the challenges of Champions League soccer, which include the difficulties associated with starting both the MLS and Champions League campaigns at the same time, as MLS kicks off in March.

Seattle broke the ice last season, but LAFC’s claim to the title is stronger. This is a team that is full of confidence, and has been the best in MLS for around 18 months now. The fact that it has made such a strong start to the current MLS season is a testament to the depth of the squad and the confidence among the LAFC players. I expect it to be too strong for Club Leon, which is not one of the better teams in Liga MX and LAFC look the best pick in the Match Betting market over the two legs.
