When it comes to the ups and downs of California sports betting, people continue to be upset about how things went down. During this past November ballot, there were two propositions ready to be voted on and passed, but both failed in disappointing fashion. Looking ahead to the future of things getting turned around, there’s hope that a new bill will arrive and be good enough to rock with. That’s why the upcoming All-Tribes meeting could be massive for California sports betting goal.
On Feb. 4, there will indeed be a meeting with all the tribal leaders in the state and legal sports betting has already been added to the agenda. This is something that the tribes have had on their minds for years now, as they continue to hope that one day legal betting can arrive. However, it’s the desire of the tribes for them to take the reins and move forward with legal sports betting.
During this past ballot, there was a battle between the tribes and major sportsbooks out there. Each side had a proposition that the good people of California voted on. Both of the propositions failed, which was a major setback for sports fans out there. However, as down in the dumps as the tribes were, they’ve wasted no time in going back to the drawing board to try and get something done.
That’s why this upcoming meeting will be so important. Countless heads will be put together to try and come up with the best possible plan of action. The first order of business will of course be to draw up a new sports betting bill that will need to be approved. Then, it will need to be voted on, with people eyeing a different result the next time around. There will be a lot of moving parts, but the tribes are up for the challenge.
Proposition 27 in California never had a chance in 2022
When looking back at things, proposition 27 in California never had a chance in 2022, which is disappointing to think about. This proposition seemed ideal on paper, but things didn’t take off – the sportsbooks made sure of that. Throughout the process leading up to voting, there were countless negative ads sent in the direction of the tribes. This was rough to see, as the tribes also had no choice but to respond.
With this, it completely turned off the voters and no one wanted to see any of the props go through. All in all, it was a rough couple of months for the voters, who had no idea what to decide on. In the end, they made it quite clear they weren’t happy, as they passionately voted no for both sides. Moving forward, it’s now up to the tribes to try and get a new proposition on the ballot, but this time one that people can support.
With all the nastiness that was being displayed this last time around, that simply can’t be the case for the next ballot. As things stand, the earliest that sports betting can arrive in California is 2024. However, it’s not even close to a lock that this date will come to fruition. There’s a lot of people out there who think that things could end up getting delayed in California, with legal sports betting not coming for 4-6 years.
If this ends up being the case, it’d be a major bummer for so many people out there. No one wants to have to wait six years for legal betting to arrive. As things stand, people are constantly checking the NFL betting odds, NBA betting odds and more, but not having the chance to place their legal wagers. This is something that needs to change in California and it needs to be done as soon as possible. The thought of 4-6 years being the new wait time is tough to even think about.

California continues to lose out on millions of dollars
With things continuing to be delayed, it’s a known fact that California continues to lose out on millions of dollars, which lawmakers aren’t happy about. Not only that, but just like other states with no legal betting options, the illegal activity keeps growing and growing. Right now, football is kind for sports bettors, with the College Football Playoff and the upcoming NFL postseason on everyone’s mind.
When it comes to Super Bowl betting odds, this is something that people across the world are always eyeing. In California, this is also the case, but people are laying down illegal wagers at a growing rate. This is something that has to stop and authorities are taking this kind of behavior very seriously.
A lot of illegal bets for the Super Bowl in California are being placed on the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles and more. Again, this kind of action needs to stop. What will prevent that from happening? Legalized sports betting, which is something that is long overdo for California and its citizens. The revenue opportunities are clearly there for California to take advantage of.
Watching the Bills win the Super Bowl this year and then handing the Lombardi Trophy to Damar Hamlin, who is recovered and watching on the sidelines with his family, would go down as one of the greatest moments in sports history.
I’d give anything to see that happen.
