When it comes to the future of California sports betting, it only feels like a matter of time before things reach the finish line. There are two propositions that will officially be placed on the November ballot and people can’t wait to vote on things. With that said, just how serious are things being taken? According to a report, more than $500 million has been invested for California sports betting push. That’s unreal.
This number is only going to grow over the next month or so, as things truly will be heating up like no other once November arrives. The fact of the matter is that you have two propositions going head to head to try and take over sports betting for the Golden State. You have one being run by the major sportsbooks out there, while the other is being run by the Indian tribes in the state.
With this, both sides are investing a ton of money in different kinds of advertisements and investors are stepping up with major donations as well. It goes without saying, but sports betting in California 100 percent will be a major revenue builder for California. Not only that, it’s going to be a project worth billions of dollars. That’s why there’s so much interest with the ballot inching closer and closer.
As things stand, the expectation is that sports betting is going to get passed one way or the other. It all depends on which proposition the voters end up going with. If the sportsbooks take over, they’re going to invest a lot of money in projects to help people who are homeless and who also deal with mental health battles. That’s why they’re receiving so much support, but the tribes are putting up quite the fight as well.
DraftKings and FanDuel spent over $20 million on the California online sports betting ballot prop over the last 2 weeks.
Meanwhile the California Democratic Party contributed $1k against it and Native Tribes another $30 million in opposition.

When will sports betting be legal in California?
We know what you’re wondering – when will sports betting be legal in California? That’s a great question and it’s tough to put an exact date on things. As we’ve mentioned above, just because things are voted into place in November, that doesn’t mean that changes will come and things will be launched overnight. There’s different laws and regulations that need to come in place first here.
Once things are voted in, however, then whoever comes out on top will surely rush to get things going and launched. Obviously, right now is the best time for fans to check the best NFL betting odds on a consistent basis and make wagers. Things are only going to heat up when the NFL postseason arrives too, as there’s always going to be a ton of intrigue when it comes to Super Bowl betting odds.
For the good folks in California, they’re going to be focused on the play of the Chargers, Rams and 49ers. For the Chargers, they’re hoping to make a splash in the AFC West, and they almost managed to pull off an upset win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. With the 49ers, San Francisco took down the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, which was amazing to see. That’s a big rivalry game.
The Rams won the Super Bowl last season, and they’re 1-1 so far this year. If legal betting was allowed in California, there’s no question that people would be betting on all of these squads. They’re going to have to wait for things to come to fruition, though. Luckily for betting fans, it looks like the wait is going to end in the near future. We don’t have to tell you how much of a relief that will be for so many people.

Things keep getting ugly in the sports betting fight
Before the ballot does arrive, you can expect more shots to be taken by both sides, as things keep getting ugly in the sports betting fight. Often in different movements like this, you see different ads being placed to try and bring down another party. That’s exactly what is happening between the sportsbooks and tribes, as they’re both trying to find the upper hand in winning over the voters.
From the tribes’ side of things, they’re not sold on the sportsbooks living up to their promise of devoting so much money to help out with mental health resources and homelessness. We’ve seen ads from the tribes calling out the sportsbooks for this, which has led to plenty of back and forth on social media. As you might have been able to guess, the sportsbooks are not happy about this at all.
They’ve made their anger heard by countering with different ads of their own. Things will only keep going south in terms of negative attacks leading up to November. If anything, though, this just goes to show how serious both parties are about winning over the right to control sports betting in the state. Which side will end up getting the votes? We’ll find out soon enough, as the anticipation for things to go down really are at an all-time high.
