Just when you thought the California sports betting movement was moving in the right direction, the latest update out of Cali doesn’t have people too excited at all. That’s because California sports betting may not be voted in after all? While this would be a complete and total shock, with two propositions on the ballot for November, a recent report states that people aren’t a big fan of what’s to come.
Indeed, a new poll took place and it showed that the majority of folks are not impressed with the initiatives that have been presented by the local tribes and the major sportsbooks, respectively. With this, far less than 50 percent of the people said they’d vote in favor of either of the ballots. With this, it would only further delay legal sports betting arriving to the state, which no one expected at this point.
“I think it’s the negative advertisements that have kind of been turning voters away,” Berkeley poll director Mark DiCamillo said via a new story that was just dropped by the Los Angeles Times. “People who haven’t seen the ads are about evenly divided, but people who’ve seen a lot of ads are against it. So, the advertising is not helping.”
Per DiCamillo, the new ads that have made their way to people’s TV screens and mobile devices have turned them off quite a bit. This doesn’t come as a big surprise, as both sides have been taking shots at one another trying to earn votes. In turn, this has backfired for both the tribes and the sportsbooks, as it looks like people now are hoping that someone else will step in to take charge of sports betting in California. This is bad news all around.
Absolutely incredible to me that $410 million was spent on obnoxious advertising for dueling ballot measures to legalize sports betting in California, and now the powers behind both are probably going to blow it for each other: https://t.co/CVemWNlpYm

Sportsbooks continue their push for legal California betting
Despite this bummer of an update, sportsbooks continue their push for legal California betting and they’re feeling optimistic that they have the upper hand against the tribes. With their initiative, the sportsbooks have promised to use funds from sports betting to help our the mental health and homelessness issues in the state. Obviously, this would be great to see, as it’s a growing problem all over California.
With this, the sportsbooks think that they’ll be able to attract enough people to win this race. The sense is that they might have a better chance of coming out on top than the tribes, but again, things are a bit up in the air here. The sportsbooks continue to push ads too and that’s not going to stop over the next month. More than $400 million has been invested on both sides to help promote legal sports betting.
A countless amount of people are hoping for California sports betting to arrive by early next year. That could end up happening if one of the initiatives is able to get across the line. The sportsbooks sure hope they’ll win, but the recent poll has a lot of people fumbling over themselves and quite nervous that things could end up going in a different direction. If this does happen, it will be back to square one for so many out there.
When it was announced that both of these measures would be on the November ballot, just about everyone assumed that one would go through, ultimately ending the wait for sports betting in California. Now, the sportsbooks’ measure is on the ropes before people can even make their way to the voting booths. This is not good whatsoever and it now has countless folks concerned about the future of sports betting.
Sports betting simply must arrive in California soon
From our chair, the fact of the matter is that sports betting simply must arrive in California soon. This is a topic that people are passionate about, similar to the way people are trying to get Florida sports betting rocking as well. These are two massive states in the USA, yet they haven’t been able to follow suit of more than 30 other states in making legal sports wagers something their citizens can partake in?
It makes no sense. Right now, people would love the ability to check the best NFL betting odds and get some wagers in. This past week, the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams faced off during Monday Night Football. You already know that a ton of illegal bets were placed on this action. You’re lying to yourself if you think people didn’t bet on this highly popular game, featuring two of the biggest teams from California.
Not only that, people are getting excited for the NBA betting odds to be released, as the Bay Area’s Golden State Warriors are fresh off their Finals victory last season. People would of course love to bet on that, legally, as well. If the voters don’t go with either the tribes or sportsbooks with their initiatives, then people will 100 percent be left scratching their heads about the future of sports betting for California.
